Thought I'd bring you a batch from my backlog today, because at heart, I'm just a fun guy.
As it's name suggests, Dead man's fingers (Xylaria polymorpha) do look the part. Growing out of a rotting log under my fav mixed hardwood stand, this is a 3-image, handheld focus stack.

Over the last few years of photographing hundreds of old Minnesota barns, there are some that stand out in my experience. Almost any round barn qualifies for that distinction as well as other very old barns that are simply spectacular in that they made it through a hundred years and are still standing strong.
Barns that are accompanied by unusual silos are also memorable like the one in the photo that has a wooden silo. Wooden silos help date barns as some rectangle ones were first built back in the late 1800s. A decade or so later, round wooden silos were built that resembled large barrels and were held together by adjustable steel hoops.
The silo aside this barn has long vertical boards which is a little more uncommon and without talking to someone who owns it today, I would guess this dates back to the very early 1900s.
Someone years ago did a nice job of repairing and maintaining this historic barn and silo eventually putting a tin roof on the barn to add years to its life. It would be an interesting to learn more about the background from someone who lives in that area.
A nice overall touch is the guy wire anchored to the barn and attached to the upper part of the silo as if two old structures were giving help to one another as they endure the testing of time.
Many of us who are nearing the end of our own life’s journey know what that companion help is like.

Foreboding morning skies at Bo Nok Beach in Prachuap Khiri Khan.
A red-shouldered hawk moments before being released back into the wild after a stint in rehab. Earlies this summer, he was struck by a car and, fortunately, a good Samaritan managed to get him to an avian rehabber who was able to fix him up.

The vertical white lines was the result of my stupidity. I somehow, after shooting hundreds of rolls on both Autocord and Rolleilfex, confused the loading structures at that very second and inserted the film leader under the lower rod.. human brain!
This really does look better on black- no really!

I spent 2 hours on this last night and I think it looks pretty good on black as long as you don't look too closely. One of these days I'm going to pick up a book on CS3 and actually figure out how to use.

Also I have to say, as much as I love the Star Wars black series, whenever I get a NECA figure I feel kinda of ripped off, same price point but the detail is a world of difference, come on Hasbro you can do a little better.
Another from the autumn snowstorm we experienced on a recent trip to the Tetons. There's something so very special about snowfall ... especially an unexpected one. It's so exciting to watch the snow change from almost a sleet, to "corn" snow, to a more traditional snowfall, to those amazing large snowflakes falling down to earth. OK, I'll admit, I have a thing for snow (ask me again next year) :-).
However, it's more than the actual snow. It's the sound of silence that comes with it ... the cold wind blowing, the visual of the trees swaying, and as I said ... the "silence" that winter brings. I just love it. Before long, the snow began to stick, on the trees, the landscape, and the wooden fence in the scene. Gosh, I love this place.

Today i had a shooting for Harley Davidson Motorcycles... wow, not easy stuff... 3 new models to shoot for new posters..so i needed details.. and good reflect in the chrome. i'll work on them this week end.. and upload them in a couple of days..on my way back i went for a little hour to see the owls... 20 minutes after i got there.. there were a fight between 2 females..amazing stuff... it is the second time i see this behavior from close enough to take photos.. viva my 500mm, here is the dance ;-)
