This was fun to draw. I painted the frisk with a toothpick for the entire feather, put in the back ground, removed the frisk, then added the highlights to the feather. Very fun to do.

The sign is so old, you know you're in for sitting seiza (formal kneeling) for hours while slogging through the shakuhachi lessons. Ouch.

First lesson, made these prints on card as I had it handy. They have become very textured but not unpleasant. Of course I forgot to leave any white spaces for tomorrow's lesson, ah well, if needs be, will do some on watercolour paper.
I left this painting 4 days ago, so got back to it today. Had to take a break from it. I am through for now.
Note to self: When you order fish in Ecuador, odds are it will not be a filet, but rather the entire fish.

Lessons of Love
He always slept
With one eye open
Now he watches
Silently
From a distance
As those he loves
Lay him to rest
Ever the guardian
He watches wistfully
Near angels wings
As his family fulfills
His lessons of love
He remembers
Watching them grow
Learning their smarts
Hoping he had not
Raised any ‘dumb kids’
They remember
His undying love
His quiet strength
Encased inside a gentle
Proud Irish, heart
And I, I shall remember
A man of steady convictions
Coming home from work
Watching the news
Reading the paper, cocktails served
As dinner is prepared
For his family, with grace
And now he watches from above
As taps are played and eyes
Fill with tears of memories
Well learned
To a father’s love
They will no, nay, never,
Forget

Edges
I loved This lesson, I learnt just as much about process as technic. For me it was thinking about how I was going to make the edges with the tools I had then thinking about what edges I was going to make in relation to the subject matter and how was I going to remember when the paint was dry or not drying, running, people walking by and looking over my shoulder 😱 😊 I realised I wasn't doing the second two steps. I was putting edges down in the moment but not thinking about composition or subject matter. Thanks Liz and class mates I having a ball doing this course. This is a view on the way to a friends house in Mt Martha, Australia,I never get tired of it.

My daughter and I started horseback riding lessons today. It was 25 degrees, but soooo worth it. We are in love.

The lessons of war always break into lessons of peace. From destruction, we build new ramparts of freedom, demorcary and progress. From emnity and prejudice, we build bonds of understanding, cooperation and solidarity. From hatred, we build compassion, justice and shared human excellence.
