Spring Fling 2012: Day Three: I ended up taking the brick off of one side because I was lazy and didn't size the bricks correctly. Lesson learned - do it right the first time, even if it takes a little more time. Here you can see the pieces of brick I can't use.

Italian History Lesson at Cathedral School

This week has been a (continuing) lesson on patience, trust, and where we turn in times of fear.

While my scripture study this covered the last of Helaman and the beginning of 3rd Nephi, I feel that the week can be summed up in the verses I read this morning in 3rd Nephi, chapter 4.

The beginning of this chapter focuses on the Gadianton Robbers and their attack on the people of Nephi. The Gadianton Robbers are pure evil. They want to destroy the Nephites off the face of the Earth. I find the reaction of the Nephites very indicative to the type of people they are, and the type of person I want to be in the face of those things I fear.

3 Nephi 4:8-10:

8) And it came to pass that the armies of the Nephites, when they saw the appearance of the army of Giddianhi, had all fallen to the earth, and did lift their cries to the Lord their God, that he would spare them and deliver them out of the hands of their enemies.

9) And it came to pass that when the armies of Giddianhi saw this they began to shout with a loud voice, because of their joy, for they had supposed that the Nephites had fallen with fear because of the terror of their armies.

10) But in this thing they were disappointed, for the Nephites did not fear them; but they did fear their God and did supplicate him for protection; therefore, when the armies of Giddianhi did rush upon them they were prepared to meet them; yea, in the strength of the Lord they did receive them.

I have been a bit…paralyzed by fear this week.

I am starting this project at school that I am intimated and overwhelmed by.

I am trying to write my thesis proposal.

I am trying to read, understand, and write about theory that confuses me.

I am trying to understand why I am doing what I am doing.

I am afraid of messing up.

I am afraid of failing.

I am afraid of going the wrong direction.

I am afraid of being a fool.

I am afraid.

This week I am learning about patience and trust.

When I am afraid I need to be like the righteous Nephites who, literally in the face of great evil and tribulation, fell to their knees and turned toward the Savior.

I find it fascinating that the wicked robbers thought the Nephites fell to the Earth in fear of them.

They did not.

They fell to the Earth in humility and prayer.

They rose in the strength of the Lord.

So to should we.

This lesson was hard. Irregular verbs used as adjectives. I never can remember the rule especially when I am talking. Rules go out the window. If I tried to remember every grammatical rule as I spoke, I wouldn´t get one word out without a ten second pause.
