First, sprout the lentils. :)

 

Fry the spices in the olive oil, then add sprouted lentils and stir-fry. I usually eat this cold for lunch during the work week.

No Onion No Garlic Dal Makhni is made by using Khadi urad dal, rajma, whereas it is balanced by adding umpteen spices, ginger and dollops of butter. Here is a step by step recipe to make it.

Recipe: Cook 1 cup yellow lentils and mash them. Flavour hot oil with mustard & cumin seeds, curry leaves asafotedia, turmeric powder, chopped garlic, ginger and green chilies. Add 1/2 chopped onion and fry until slightly browned. Add 2 tsp garam masala (curry powder), 1 tsp corriander powder, 1/2 tsp jeera (cumin) powder, 1/2 tsp chili powder. Add one chopped tomato and fry. Add the lentils and water and 1 tsp jaggery and some tamarind. Boil for 15 min.

Sometimes I take pictures of my dinner.

 

Trying to embrace fresh halibut season. Local, sustainable, nutritious and delicious!

 

Probably some first time making lentils. Still got some learnin to do. Halibut was seared in some butter then finished in the (toaster) oven for a few minutes. I love sticking my pans in the toaster oven.

No real recipe here - just leftover red lentil soup plus leftover cauliflower. To make red lentil soup:

 

Cook up some red lentils according to the package directions - rinse then cover with water and simmer for around 15 minutes. Meanwhile, soften some diced onion, carrot, and any other vegetables you like. Start by rendering some diced bacon if you want some extra flavor. When the lentils are done - most of the water should be gone and they should be soft - add them to the softened vegetables along with some chicken or vegetable stock.

I think it's the dirty mirror that makes me look pointillistic, don't you? I'm wearing a Secret Lentil Husk, and pants that I made out of $3.00 flea market material.
