Sheep Mountain, north of Greybull Wyoming, is a highly dissected anticline. At its center lies a prominent 15 mile long ridge which corresponds to the double plunging anticline’s crest. The photo shows the southwest end of the canyon cut by Bighorn River through the anticline’s core about 1/3 of the way along the ridge from its north end. Sheep Mountain Canyon measures about a 1,000 feet deep at its maximum. In this view the Bighorn River which cut the canyon can not be seen but it flows through the Canyon.. The Mississippian Madison Limestone makes up most of the cliffs in the photo above. The Pennsylvanian Amsden and Tensleep Sandstone overlie the Madison as seen in the upper lefthand corner of the photo. The Sheep Mountain anticline is a Laramide fold that formed along buried back thrust faults. This view shows the southwest limb of the fold. The center or axis of the anticline can be seen in the middle of the photo.. Visible just to the left of the Canyon is a quarry where Madison Limestone was mined. Two large piles of crushed limestone can be seen protruding in front of the quarry.

Thorpe Cloud is the flat topped hill just right of centre - it's lefthand ridge runs down to the stepping stones in Dovedale.

The valley bottom was very white and there was a tidemark of frost along the sides of the surrounding hills. White balance was bouncing around like mad as the lighting changed by the minute with a rising sun being partially attenuated by some interesting clouds rolling in from the west

This is a photo of the shadow of my left arm and hand on the door of the fridge.

This was one of my final shots of the day around the reservoir, and for me I like this the most, reminds me so much of the beauty of the English Countryside. This photo has a story and the story was how can we get down to the fence level that you can see on the lefthand side, we couldnt but George had other ideas and I decided to go and check whether it was possible at all!

Finally I dedicate this photograph to all my family, friends on flickr and DPG! Once again George, thanks for making this a fabulous morning!

Cheers,

Andy

This thing is loud as hell.

Exotic cars on the highway. Sunrise. Perfect. Added a bit more "Heaven glow" in the lefthand corner. As I said, was a perfect time to shoot, but accidentally had my ISO high because of the pervious night I believe. Oh well, the grain isn't too bad haha.

Coltsfoot / tussilago farfara. Nottingham Canal, Cossington, Nottinghamshire. 18/04/21.

'A TIME TO DISPERSE.'

Part of a larger group growing on the canalside. Selective focus on the lefthand seedhead to show detail. Rest of seedheads slightly out of focus to show their movement in a gentle breeze. Bokeh created by last light on surface of canal.

BEST VIEWED LARGE.

The spider species Neoscona crucifera, commonly known as Hentz Orb-Weaver, belongs to the family Araneidae. This family of spiders is a very large one and includes 2800 species. One feature of the webs of some orb-weavers is the "stabilimentrum", a crisscross band of silk through the centre of the web. A crisscross silk is seen on the lefthand side of the spider.

Union Pacific's Roseville to North Platte manifest freight blasts through Echo, Utah on Oct. 19, 2017. In about 200 feet, the train will encounter a 35 mph lefthand curve followed by grade increase from 0.4% to 1.14%.

Just around sunrise moment (behind and lefthand-side).

The tide is high. The sticking logs are part of the tree (sometimes appears in my photos) showing only the top part. They're from one piece of tree. When the tide is low, whole the tree shows up.

Could not resist the puffin chat up line "Do you come here often". !!

Not quite happy with the focus on the lefthand puffin compared with the righthand one, but this was a grab shot before one of them shot down the nearby burrow.

Nikon D750 with Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 @f/6.3, ISO 640, shutter 1/2500th. Processed in Lightroom CC.

Blue Falls.................there is an otter in the lefthand bottom corner, I didn't want to put a note 'cause it takes away from photos.

IF the Western Maryland was still alive in 2023, this is what it may have looked like, right?

OK, probably not. But the pseudo painted Western Maryland F units look right at home on the former GC&E Sub as they cross over the Shavers Fork of the Cheat River. WM 243 (ex CP 4071) and WM 415 (ex CRR 869) lead C&O 7094 (ex MILW 109A) bringing the Durbin and Greenbrier Railroad's "New Tygart Flyer" back across the high bridge over the Shavers Fork of the Cheat River deep in the West Virginia Wildnerness. DGVRR's New Tygart Flyer is a 4 hour 45 minute train ride out of Elkins, WV that takes riders on a leisurely paced train ride through the scenic valleys of West Virginia on their way to the High Falls of Cheat, a 150 foot wide, 18 foot tall waterfall feature that is located on the river.

In order to make this shot work, the shoes and socks came off for this one, followed by me precariously walking my way out onto a rock in the middle of the river for this photo. That water was freezing! But the photo turned out better than I could have hoped for, and it was quite enjoyable to just sit amongst the roar of the water.

The high bridge pictured sits right in the middle of the Elk River Junction, which was a highly unique set up. The Durbin branch would split off from the right and run along the distant hillside before making a sweeping lefthand curve to cross the river and cross back over the GC&E main at grade. The junction's most notable feature was it being famous for having a diamond "in the middle of nowhere" before continuing on for a mile or 2 before reaching a stub ended siding.

Trains would run around before continuing onto Durbin or to come down through the junction at Elk River onto Elkins.

Testing effect of additional acetic acid (which is quite subtle, btw)

Righthand ⅓ has no additional acetic acid, central ⅓ has 1 drop per 5ml sensitizer, lefthand ⅓ has 4 drops per 5ml sensitizer.

This is the smaller station at Brig for the narrow gauge line between St Moritz and Zermatt. This incredible route is very picturesque but fascinating in that the train adds in coaches and removes them at different sections of the route. A beautiful restaurant rail car gets added in as well I believe. (This may have changed in recent times, as it is a few years since we did the full route.)

It is interesting that although called an express train it is one of the slowest in the world!!

You cannot often get to areas of the railway network to capture shots like this.

Here is a crossing from Brig town to the main railway station when trains come up from Italy and beyond to transit through Brig and Switzerland.

Getting down low gives a nice and different view of the tracks close up. (Shot taken on iPhone 15 Pro Max.)

Interesting reflections in the lefthand rail track of the red and white parts of the train locomotive.

I love the look on the lefthand seal's face! He's ready for action!

I was gonna call it "The Funeral" but that sounded a little bit to harsh tonight.. it was the last time I was out with the soapdish so it had to be with a decent beer to go at least.. I had a real beer glass with me too! : )

Heading North West away from the center of Alicante along the A7 you will see this wonderful area of outstanding beauty to your lefthand side, a truly special area to visit with a camera.

According to some clever websites, these unusual geology forms have evolved over the last 200 million years, producing these complex and colourful patterns. I was very surprised at how similar they are to some well-known sites in the United States.

I hope you like this image, and as always, thank you for looking

Hi Folks,

Luna has managed to sit safely in my car and now she insists on driving it herself. She does very well and is a careful polar bear driver but she has a little problem parking the car correctly. We, Paddy and myself gave her some driving lessons and now she is off to town to do some shopping. Hope she’ll return home safe and sound. You must know that here in Wales a Learner needs to label his car with an ‘L’ and somebear with a valid driving licence has to be with her. This is a problem, as neither Paddy nor myself have room in the car to go with her. Further, where will she transport all the buckets of honey she wanted to buy in the supermarket ? Just a minute, my bearphone is ringing …. Oh, that was the local Police who have stopped Luna on the busy mainroad and sent this photo. Luna was caught without a driving licence and apparently she had forgotten all a about the lefthand traffic in GB. Further, she drove far too fast, the Police could hardly stop her. And now SHE will have to pick her up from the Police station. And I have to tell Her all about it. What a drama … !

Bear Hugs all around

A shiny SD60M leads the Low Line job southward across the Snake River Drawbridge near Burbank, WA just upstream of where the Snake flows into the Columbia. A few miles south of here, this train will take a lefthand turn onto UP's Ayer Sub and make an evening run up the river to the interchange with Watco's Great Northwest Railroad at Ayer.

Swan Lake, on the southeast coast of New South Wales, Australia, is one of the many places that I’ve heard of for years but not ever visited, until last weekend. I was here on Sunday night to try to photograph the Milky Way while it was low in the southwestern sky. A few minutes before I shot the last images that make up this panorama, the clouds moved in from the northeast to try and rain on my parade.

Although this part of the coast is sparsely populated, the small holiday townships near the lake still produce their share of light pollution. Cudmirrah, over on the left, was pumping out white light, and near the middle of the shot, the yellow glow on the horizon is from fog-piercing lights on the Princes Highway, about 12 km (7.5 mi) distant. Some campers had a fire burning at the north end of the lake, and I love the little blossom of orange light that they added to the scene.

Mars is still unmissable in our southern skies late into the night, riding high over the middle of my photo. The Small Magellanic Cloud, a galaxy, snuck into the lefthand edge, for extra interest. I hope to get back here again before this Milky Way season ends.

I shot 24 single photos to create this panoramic image and took each of those frames using a Canon EOS 6D camera, a Rokinon 24 mm lens @ f/2.4, for a 15-second exposure @ ISO 6400.

Shoshoni Peak (12,967 ft; 3,952 m) looms above the valley of South Saint Vrain Creek as rain clouds gather and prepare to do what they do best, Indian Peaks Wilderness, Colorado. Lake Isabelle lies just over the foreground ridge. Because its water levels are under the direct control of the Lefthand Ditch company, there was very little lake to be seen at this time of year. People take what they need, but so much of the water goes to lawns and commodity crops it's a bit fuzzy defining 'need' these days.

The weather has been colder and snowy over the last few days in the high country, so I imagine this scene has been utterly transformed by now. Thanks for stopping by and having a look!

SFO October 1, 2019. Drove around for a while to find a good vantage point of the San Francisco International Airport with full view of the runways 01L and 01R. I don't know much about airports but knew that whenever I fly into SFO, I wasn't landing on these runways so figured these were the ones I want ed to track takeoffs.

Interestingly enough, in my 1.5 hours of shooting here, 3 planes actually taxied the wrong way down the longer runways, 28R and 28L and then U turned and took off down them. I know how other iaports work, but SFO definitely has their work cut out for the air traffic controllers who have to manage perpendicular runways and two way traffic.

Anyway I start shooting around 9:30 and for the first 50 min, no planes took off down the lefthand runway and just as I was about to give up, a tiny plane took off and then started alternating between L and R for 30 min.

I was shooting from the sidewalk in front of a very understanding homeowner 2 miles from the airpot and could still hear the larger planes fire up their engines when they got the green light to take off. IT was a very educational photoshoot albeit boring as hell, and stacking 30 images and editing them was even more boring, considering I rarely edit photos.

Anyway, voila, my most time consuming edit ever. Hope you enjoy.

Hintersee is Majestic located near Ramsau on the border of the Berchtesgaden National Park with Mount Hochkalter lefthand side in the background. It is the2,606 m high. It is the third highest in the Berchtesgaden Alps. On 24 August 1908 the summit of the Hochkalter came crashing down and changed the appearance and height of the peak markedly. The volume of rock broken off is estimated at 240,000 m³. The rock fall was felt in the Ramsau valley as an earthquake.

12/52: Project 52 - Take one image as you would normally and then take a second, of the same subject, but use a different perspective or technique. Post both images and tell us which one you prefer and why.

Since the theme for Macro Monday this week was ICM, I thought I would continue with that theme and use ICM for my second photo for this theme too. Rather than flood my photostream with more photos than necessary I decided on a diptych to showcase both photos at once.

I prefer the lefthand image because of the cleaner, whiter background. I guess because I used the ND filter on the ICM image the background looks more grey.
