This is one of the 124 of 148 picture that Flickr's servers "Ate" for reasons unknown in spring 2023. It took Flickr 3 days and 6 people to get them all back, but the stories with them..my journals and thoughts...were gone forever...

All I have is these pictures to try to remember it all...

I miss my friend Meghan...I miss being on the water with her...just drifting... we were friends and no one ever believed that...

Now she is gone and all I can remember from this lovely image of her and I is her racing down a dock yelling "BOAT! BOAT! BOAT!" as she insisted on buying me one...

I miss my friend so much. I hate those who got jealous of something that never was...so wrecked what was there...

I miss you Megs...very much...

boat...boat...boat.. :-(

Left behind when the Gold Ran Out

This 1937 Chevrolet Coupe is just one of many abandoned cars in Bodie, CA. It was a gold town, now it’s a ghost town. When the gold ran out, everyone left very quickly and went off on the quest for gold in the next ghost town - wherever that happened to be. The town is preserved as an historical landmark. When the people left, they even left cooked food in dishes on the table and the (almost petrified) food is still there - on the table. A few people stayed for a few more years, that's where the cars came from. But, the glory days were over for Bodie. The town is frozen in time.

The town of Wünsdorf was once the largest military base in Europe. The town was the headquarters of the Soviet forces in communist East Germany and had a population of 60,000 people, 50,000 of whom where soldiers. When the Soviet army left in 1994 the population dropped to just 6,000.

The town’s history as a military base dates back to before World War one. It was the headquarters of the High Command of the Germany army during World War II, and was a garrison town long before the Soviets moved in.

Wunsdorf was a closed town during the time it was occupied by the Soviet forces, and effectively became a Soviet town in the heart of Germany. A daily delivery via a direct rail link from Moscow allowed the town to isolate itself from the surrounding areas, having its own shops, theatre, leisure facilities and hospital.

The Haus Der Offiziere had it's own leisure facilities such as a theatre and swimming pool. A giant statue of Lenin stands tall in front of the central building.
