Lanercost Priory was founded by Robert de Vaux between 1165 and 1174, the most likely date being 1169, to house Augustinian Canons. Naworth Castle and Hardian's Wall are both in close proximity. Most of the stone needed to build the priory was taken from Hadrian's Wall.

Bit bizarre this. I stuck the moth trap out more in hope than expectation, after a couple of local moth trappers had caught the first and second black-spotted chestnuts for the county on previous nights.

 

I didn't get a Black-spotted Chestnut or any other migrants, but I did get my first ever Lead-coloured Drab, a species that's supposed to be on the wing in April!
