Slip Sliding Away (8770)

Imagine walking carefully on a flat white valley floor completely aglow from the light of a full moon on a whisper-quiet evening. That is Racetrack Playa in Death Valley N.P., CA, far from anywhere, and utterly enchanting. For the longest time, none of us were sure these mysterious stones left these tracks while sliding across the parched desert floor. Although we know now, it's still magical.

I met up with my friend Lance Keimig (National Parks At Night) and a beautiful group of people in DVNP. We went out late nights to photograph the amazing sites. This was my last photo of the evening, as it was cold and others had retreated to the car or were packing up. I knew I didn't have enough time for star trails, so I set the camera to a shorter exposure. I ran around, illuminating the rock and the flat white ground with white and red light from my handheld flashlight while the tripod-mounted camera shutter remained open. Lazy shutters make me happy, especially with moving water, was the wave coming in, or going out during this shot? You tell me.
After spending a good part of the morning at the top of Cheaha Mountain and before the light got too harsh, we decided to head down to the lower part of the park to check out the colors surrounding the lake. It was a spectacular day.

This night photo looks as if an aircraft crash-landed on a forbidden planet, not wrecked and abandoned in the desert. Brandishing a flashlight capable of producing different colors, I illuminated the scene while the tripod-mounted camera shutter was open for this long exposure photo. High clouds moved in as I was photographing this, and the nighttime winds made the airplane occasionally creak loudly, sometimes surprising me. Please feel free to share.

I brought my camera along to a meeting I had downtown Victoria tonight and afterwards I snuck out to snap a few lazy shutter shots. This one had the shutter open for 30 seconds! It was pretty cool to see all these boats sleeping in the harbour.
To Quote Dr. Emmett Brown:

I set out when making this shot to push the boundaries of my skill and creativity. We mostly see light houses by day, so getting to capture it by night doesn't really do them justice. The best of both would be, well, the best of both.
So here it is – a marriage of twilight and starlight. Hope you enjoy :)

This shot looks so simple but getting the shot is challenging because the bamboo forest in Hawaii is so dark, so obviously it's a long exposure shot and the wooden platform is always shaky with tons of tourists walking in both directions. Fortunately, I found this 10 secs window where I could snap this frame.

Looks like an airplane with flying goggles, ready for the cosmos and what that may bring. Night photo, back end of a wrecked and abandoned aircraft, still formidable in its decay, with the Milky Way on the left. Brandishing a flashlight capable of producing different colors, I illuminated the scene while the tripod-mounted camera shutter was open for this long exposure photo. High clouds moved in as I was photographing. The airplane occasionally creaked, startling me from an otherwise peaceful evening. Please feel free to share.
