Used the bottom part of a lavalamp (the lamp part where the lava bottle rests), covered it with black cardboard with a small hole, and on top a piece of glass. This vodka bottle is great for this since it has lots of edges and it's pretty much see through. Had the liquid inside been cloudier there would've been a ray of light shooting through the bottle.

I think I took this photo in 2000, mucking around with my camera at night in the Stanmore sharehouse I was living in (Sydney, Australia). There are few small marks on the print I scanned it from unfortunately - must fix in photoshop when I have a moment, and re-upload...
