Vintage lava lamp. It takes about 30-40 minutes to warm up.
I had always wanted one of these since the early 80s. Unfortunately by the time I was old enough to afford one, they were gone. Capri and I found this vintage one at a garage sale about 15 years ago.
Watching the red wax blob float around in there makes me feel a little better.
This is the inside of a Disney themed Lava Lamp. Instead of the Lava, it's all sparkling Mickey Mouse Heads.

The mega-lava lamp I ordered for Poodstock FINALLY turned up--3 months after the fact. But both girls like to sit next to it and, especially, when L&O is on TV. It helps them get in the mood.
DAY 83 – Easter Sunday. We went to my In-Laws for a family tea. My young nephews insisted on seeing the old 1960’s lava-lamp working. It kept them quiet for a while as their Grandad told them it only warms up and starts working if they don’t make any noise.

The theme this past week for the MacroMondays group was "The Seventies" which had me pulling out items we have not used or played with in a while.
Listening to the old vinyl discs of Saturday Night Fever and borrowing my sons' disco mirror ball and lava lamp, this shot was taken while shining my shop light off the ball...

strobist: sb800 hand held in right hand with diffuser in place. Letting ambient in with a slower exposure. Fired my camera left handed and sideways. Wierd way to do it. When I held strobe in my left hand, I was getting a hot spot on the lava lamp in the background.

Is it my version of a fishnet stocking leg lamp or is a phallic symbol? Aren't they one in the same?
