Ladispoli occupies the area existed the ancient Alsium, the port of the Etruscan city of Cerveteri and later a Roman colony cited by Cicero. Alsium was destroyed in the 6th century AD, during the Gothic War, by the Ostrogoths led by Totila. Later a castle, named Palo, was built in the area: it was a fief of the Orsini and, from 1693, of the Odescalchi family. Modern Ladispoli was founded in 1888 by Ladislao Odescalchi, whom its name stems from. In the late 1970s and until the early 1990s, parts of Ladispoli served as refugee camps for Soviet emigrants seeking political and/or religious asylum in Western countries (mostly United States, Canada and Australia). The experience of Jews from the former USSR staying in Ladispoli in the 1980s was first described in English by Maxim D. Shrayer in his literary memoir "Waiting for America" (2007).

The Roman-era statue in the distance through the doorways is at the stairs leading down to the Roman museum in the basement.

Our room. Re the bathroom - I'm pretty sure that those stairs were in the original villa, since they are directly above the current stairs leading up from the ground floor. It really was a rather small bathroom, although it had all the amenities (toilet, bidet, bathtub, separate shower) but that staircase to nowhere really opened the space up and gave it a WOW factor.
La Posta Vecchia, a seaside mansion overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea in the Mediterranean, was built about 1640 for members of the powerful Orsini dynasty (as a guest house next to their castle, which also still stands), over remains of a grand villa of the ancient Roman settlement of Alsium. Purchased and renovated in the 1960s by J. Paul Getty, it remained his retirement home until 1973, during which time he converted the “basement” into a first-century museum featuring the ruins of the early Roman villa as well as pottery and other artifacts from the time. It is now a lovely hotel with Italian gardens and that basement Roman museum.
Suggestive atmospheres and places full of charm: during the restoration of the Hotel La Posta Vecchia, Luxury Hotel in Ladispoli, in the 1960, were discovered two ancien Roman Villa.
