The Tolfa Mountains extend for about 77,000 hectares between the lower Viterbese area, the Monti Cimini area and the stretch of coast that, beyond Civitavecchia, includes Santa Marinella, Santa Severa and Ladispoli; the territory of the municipalities of Tolfa and Allumiere, consisting of 27,000 hectares, constitutes its central nucleus. Towards the north, the Tolfa area is delimited by the course of the Mignone river, which originates on the north-western slopes of the Sabatini Mountains and flows into the Tyrrhenian Sea south of the Saline di Tarquinia; among its numerous tributaries, only the Fosso Lenta and the Fosso Verginese have water throughout the year.
I Monti della Tolfa si estendono per circa 77.000 ettari tra il basso Viterbese, l’area dei Monti Cimini e il tratto di costa che, oltre Civitavec-chia, comprende Santa Marinella, Santa Severa e Ladispoli; il territorio dei comuni di Tolfa e Allumiere, formato da 27.000 ettari, ne costituisce il nucleo centrale. Verso nord il comprensorio tolfetano è delimitato dal corso del fiume Mignone, che nasce alle pendici nord-occidentali dei Monti Sabatini e sfocia nel Mar Tirreno a sud delle Saline di Tarquinia; tra i suoi numerosi affluenti, solo il Fosso Lenta e il Fosso Verginese hanno ac-qua durante tutto l’anno.
