This bottle has been in the family for years and is rather old. It indicates that Pepsi is from New York City They have not been from there since the mid 1960’s. My mother used it as a sprinkler to dampen clothes before ironing. --HMM

Cosmic smoke & telescope mirrors?

Webb found complex organic molecules similar to smoke or smog in a galaxy more than 12 billion light-years from Earth. This sets a new record for the most distant detection of these big, complicated molecules: bit.ly/43M4YEG

The distant galaxy in question lies behind a much closer foreground galaxy. The gravity of the foreground galaxy is so great that it distorts and magnifies the light of the galaxy behind it, making it easier to see.

In space, where there’s smoke, there are stars — usually. But this galaxy might change astronomers’ long-held belief: These “smoky molecules” were abundant in some areas with little star formation, or were scarce in some areas with active star birth.

Due to how far light from this galaxy had to travel, we’re seeing this galaxy as it was back when the universe was < 1.5 billion years old. The discovery suggests that complex chemistry began occurring in the universe much earlier than we thought.

This image: The galaxy observed by Webb shows an Einstein ring caused by a phenomenon known as lensing, which occurs when two galaxies are almost perfectly aligned from our perspective on Earth. The gravity from the galaxy in the foreground causes the light from the background galaxy to be distorted and magnified, like looking through the stem of a wine glass. Because they are magnified, lensing allows astronomers to study very distant galaxies in more detail than otherwise possible.

Image Description: This is an infographic with a navy blue background. At the top left it says, "What creates an Einstein Ring?" In the center is a diagram. At far left is a drawing of Webb, labeled James Webb Space Telescope. In the center is a foreground galaxy, shown in blue. On the right is a background galaxy, shown in red. Arrows run in a diamond shape from the red galaxy around the blue galaxy, and to Webb. The lines are labeled "Distorted light rays." At the bottom there is another arrow pointing to the right that says "Looking further into the past." which implies the galaxy shown in red is older and farther away than the foreground galaxy, which has warped its light. At far right is the inset Webb image of the Einstein ring. In this inset, on a black background, there are two notable objects. There is a foreground galaxy seen as a big bright blue dot at the center of the frame. It is surrounded by an orange ring meant to highlight the discovery of organic molecules in the galaxy whose light has been bent into a circle. Near the top left of the image, there is also a distant background galaxy represented as a tiny red dot.

Designer labels.

I was doing a project for Age Concern, that’s how I came to be in this retirement home. They wanted specific images for a book, so I had set up the image I needed, when I spotted this gentleman looking very interested at everything I was doing.

He sat by himself, I had some time, I walked over to him and had a very lovely chat, he wanted to know all about the project.

It struck me again how lonely people often are and a bit of human kindness, some attention and a laugh can make their day (and mine!).

I saw things were ready for the next shot when he asked me:” was I not going to photograph him?”

So I said of course… that made him very happy yet he did not feel like smiling, which was fine by me, I liked his curiosity.

It was only after the development and the viewing of the negs that I saw what I really had captured!

I wonder if the designers imagine who they're all designing for! They probably think only of the young and fashion conscious?

Do they ever think where their designer labels might turn up?

This is a poignant and I hope also very thought provoking image.

I love this photo because it is full of social commentary and has a lot to say.

Have a joyful day and thanx for viewing, Magda (*_*)

Another difficult one to print, backlight, no flash, just some neon lights on the ceiling, it all adds to the atmosphere.

I often like the discipline of touching back the basics, one camera, one lens, grainy 400 asa b&w film, and go out there.

Ulric Ellerhusen sculpted the Oregon Pioneer that rests atop the capitol dome's exterior.

Construction of the newest building began on December 4, 1936.[12] The third state capitol was completed in 1938 and is the fourth-newest capitol in the United States. The capitol was dedicated on October 1, 1938, with speeches from President Franklin D. Roosevelt, Leslie M. Scott, Robert W. Sawyer, and Oregon Governor Charles Henry Martin. Chosen from 123 entries in a countrywide competition, the design of the new building deviated from the normal design of state capitol buildings. The design was labeled a combination of Egyptian simplicity and Greek refinement.[Overall it is Art Deco in style, and is one of only three state capitols in the United States constructed in that architectural style.

In April 2002, the building became the first state capitol in the United States to produce solar power through the use of 60 photovoltaic panels generating 7.8 kilowatt.

Built:October 1, 1938

My initial idea was to print the background colour in gold ink to make it look like a polished brass letterbox flap, but it didn't look right so I used a diluted orange and did the type in gold.

The shaded type is an antique treasure called 'Sylvan' (Stephenson Blake, 1875). It's from before the point system so is an irrational size of about 21pt, which made locking up a bit of a bodge.

The background was printed from a piece of lino and the whole thing was done on the Adana 8-5. Now all I need to do is write some letters to stick them on!

I might take the photo again and get it more symmetrical, if it keeps on annoying me like this.

In particular, we’re interested in questions and answers related to the global semiconductor shortage, and the answerers’ argumentation. To somewhat quantify what is going on, we identified several typical ways of reasoning in the answers: historical, technological, nationalistic, China-critical, geopolitical and off-topic. [...]«
