Even in the heat of the desert, this soldier still fights valiantly for the Fatherland, his MG shooting down anyone who gets in the way of victory!

"Der Körper weiß mehr von der Welt als das Bewusstsein. Es ist keine Technik, die man lernen kann, wie ihr Europäer das macht mit euren Tänzen. Ihr habt immer Formeln für alles, sogar, um Liebe zu machen, als ob die Liebe und der Tanz nicht aus dem tiefsten Inneren eines Menschen geboren würden, als ob sie nicht der vitale Lebensrhythmus selbst wären..."

Henry Guzmán

The Afrika Korps or German Africa Corps (German: Deutsches Afrikakorps, DAK) was the German expeditionary force in Africa during the North African Campaign of World War II. First sent as a holding force to shore up the Italian defense of their African colonies, the formation fought on in Africa, under various appellations, from March 1941 until its surrender in May 1943. The unit's best known commander was Field Marshal Erwin Rommel. Since Hitler forbade any evacuation of troops, the Heeresgruppe Afrika surrendered with 275,000 men, among them the soldiers of the Afrika Korps, on 11 May 1943.

'Then this ebony bird beguiling my sad fancy into smiling,

By the grave and stern decorum of the countenance it wore,

“Though thy crest be shorn and shaven, thou,” I said, “art sure no craven, Ghastly grim and ancient Raven wandering from the Nightly shore — Tell me what thy lordly name is on the Night’s Plutonian shore!” Quoth the Raven “Nevermore.”

Brief note on reverse identifying our Koch and his formation - K-Flak Batterie 15. "Radjen" must be a location somewhere in Palestine.

A fascinating view of a field kitchen belonging to K-Flak Batterie 15, who were attached to the Asien-Korps; the German forces sent to assist the Ottoman Army in their struggles against the Allied forces in the middle east. Originally deployed to assist the Turks in the recapture of Baghdad, the Asian-Korps ended up defending the Palästinafront in 1918.

Afrika Korps members in various uniforms. To be honest, I don't know which rank is which, which division is which, etc, they're all just based off pretty generic combos seen on Google Images.

If I had to choose one standard, it would be the ones on the far left. In a perfect world they would be given full body OD, Kamonian decals, tan scarves, custom goggles and tan Kepi's to go along with the Stahlhelms.

Here it is everyone! I finally got around to doing pictures a few days ago, and here we are. This scene depicts German troops of Kampfgruppe Lang scouting for enemy troop movements during Operation Oschenkopf, the last Axis Operation in North Africa.

The Tunisian campaign was, for the DAK (Deutsch Africa Korps), the end of their reign of North Africa. With the British forces slow moving, but a positively overwhelming force, and with American forces landing in Vichy France held Morocco and Algeria with little resistance, things were looking grim for the remaining German forces in Africa, that at the moment were a minuscule force compared to the Allies. But...our boy Adolf wouldn’t be outdone; and German troops began flooding into Tunisia, near the end of 1942. These forces included the newest of German high-tech engineering, the Panzerkampfwagen VI, best known and feared as the Tiger I were included. With the inexperienced American troops and tank crews, the veteran DAK troops had no problem taking out large numbers of them early in the campaign. This was most greatly achieved by the Germans in the massacre that was the battle of Kasserine Pass during February of 43’, where German forces had excellent defensive positions prepared. Eventually, after many months of battle, the wear and tear of battle began to grow on the German and Italian troops. Hitler, being the fool he was, had planned for the defence of Tunisia to be a last-stand effort, with every man fighting to the very end. German General Albert Kesselring and Field Marshall Erwin Rommel, thankfully did not share Hitler’s unrealistic views, and they would not have all their men die for a lost cause, which Hitler had caused himself. And on May 13th, 1943, nearly 250,000 Axis troops (about half German and half Italian) surrendered to the Allies, as they had been pushed to nearly the Mediterranean coast. Thus ending the North African campaign; one of many defeats the battered German war machine would take in the next 2 1/2 years, until the end.

The I SS-Panzer Korps commander Obergruppenführer Sepp Dietrich ordered his only reserve, schwere SS-Panzer Abteilung 101 to move behind the Panzer-Lehr and 12th SS-Panzer divisions in the Villers-Bocage area, as a precaution against an attempt to advance into the Caumont Gap. Schwere SS-Panzer Abteilung 101 had arrived in Normandy on 12 June, after a five-day drive from Beauvais. The battalion had an establishment of 45 Tiger I but had been reduced to about 17 serviceable tanks by an air attack near Versailles. The 1st Company moved to a position 5.6 miles (9.0 km) north-east of Villers-Bocage; the 2nd Company to just south of Point 213 on the Villers-Bocage ridge and the 3rd remained near Falaise with one serviceable tank. The 2nd Company consisted of 12 tanks but through a combination of losses and mechanical failures only six Tigers were present on 13 June. The area around Villers-Bocage came under heavy naval artillery fire during the night of 12/13 June and the 2nd Company moved three times; the company planned a mechanical overhaul for the morning.
