These vegetable mandu (Korean dumpling) were not that good. Too thick for me. I had shrimp mandu fom the same brand (All Groo) and thos were really nasty. Bad smell and taste.

1 lb. pork finely chopped (I use whatever cut is on sale at Whole Foods, you can use ground pork too)

2-3 small zucchini, finely chopped

2 small onions or 1/2 large onion, finely chopped

1 extra large egg

1 tablespoon of sesame seed oil

dash of salt

dash of pepper

lots of dashes of garlic

 

mix well in large bowl

Making the dumplings will be messy, so put down a dropcloth.

 

Also needed are a bowl of water, a teaspoon, dumplings skins (storebought), and a dish covered in paper towels (to store the completed uncooked dumplings)

Drop the dumplings (gently) into boiling water. About 15 per 4 quart pot. Wait until they rise, then let boil for another 1-2 minutes. Cook longer if you intend to eat plain. Cook less if you mean to add them to the traditional New Year's Soup (they'll cook some more in the soup).

The banchan serve-yourself buffet and pre-packed selection at the Ktown Galleria's supermarket will be my undoing.

though, i must say, we stocked up at trader joe's today, midwestern-style. like 5 of everything. who knows when we'll make it back.

Using your finger, dip in bowl of water, and then run your finger along half of the outer rim of the dumpling skin. Don't wet the entire outer rim, because then it'll be too soggy a mess to handle.

 

After wetting, seal both edges together to make a nice half moon dumpling. Filling may need to be taken out or added or rearranged to fit.
