Old maps, months of them, sit around out of date

Knowledge is a poet. I shot him at First Friday, Las Vegas.

I enjoyed listening to him, even though it was a little too political for my tastes - but that may be because I'm a little too apathetic when it comes to politics.

This series is a conversation about my current life. Living and studying in Boston, I work diligently to expand my knowledge, experience, and professionalism, while simultaneously relaxing in the world around me. The series is a journey, as I continue to develop my relationship to my environment, and the people that occupy this environment.

Boston Friends

The first section of my portfolio are the head shots of five friends, paired with some of the professional watches we collectively wear. These were some of the first photographs I shot and were a building block in my conceptual development of this series project. These were shot with professional equipment, in a studio environment, as I wanted to improve some of my photography techniques. These photographs are in black and white: for at times I tend to see professionalism as very cut and dry, with limited variation in its aspects.

Milford Family

The second section focuses on the members of my life I care about most, those who live at home. These are the people that drive me to succeed. The theme of these photographs is relaxation, with each showing the subject participating in an activity they do to relax. These photographs are organized in a mini-series per person: with two portraits, two objects, and one landscape that each represent them in some way. These photographs are in color, because I think the strongest component of a photograph can be the color scheme used in its composition.

Landscapes

The last section of my series is a personal reflection through landscape photographs. The first ones display the locations around my neighborhood where I find time to relax. These are my favorite photographs to take, for I am completely relaxed when I can walk around outside with a camera. The second half presents the places I find myself working in, studying in, and being productive in. For while I find rest and relaxation important, I am ultimately here to study and educate myself.

It takes a lot of courage to show your dreams to someone else.
