Biography:
I became a photographer by chance. In 1999, a friend asked me to assist him on a portrait shoot. Several years into a career as a management consultant and knowing nothing about photography, I was an unlikely candidate for the job, but I took it out of curiosity and the experience was a revelation. The next day I bought a Rollei 35 camera on eBay. Shortly thereafter, I signed up for my first photography class at CCSF and continued taking classes at CCSF for the next three years.
Initially, I used photography to study the underlying connections and relationships between seemingly disparate things. My photographs of urban fragments and abstractions comprised two solo exhibitions titled Sub:Urban at the San Francisco International Airport in 2005 and 2006. Inspired to find similar simple, graphic compositions of entire buildings, architectural photography was the logical next step. After assisting a number of professional photographers, I eventually went on to work for myself full-time in 2007, focusing on architectural photography, which I continue to do to this day.
Almost fifteen years after my discovery of photography, I’m happy to say that I won’t be changing careers again. I can’t think of anything else I’d rather do, which makes me a very lucky person indeed.
CCSF Photography and You:
My first photography course, and first experience with City College San Francisco, was a beginning black and white class at the Fort Mason Extension. Some of my early prints from this class were displayed at the annual art show. Participating in this exhibition was very inspiring and encouraged me to become a student at CCSF’s Ocean Campus.
Among many excellent teachers at CCSF, Holman Turner, Franklin Avery, and Nish Nishihara were especially integral to my development. Even after I had completed my courses, Holman, Franklin and Nish were all doing things to help me further my career. I went to Holman’s house for workshops; Franklin hired me as a photo assistant; and I received advice from Nish regarding my portfolio. They provided me with the wisdom, enthusiasm and encouragement that would guide me to my eventual career as a photographer.
Having graduated from Chico State in 1993 with a business degree, I’m the first to say it’s never too late to embark on a new career. One of my first recommendations is to start by taking classes at CCSF. Without the affordability and accessibility of CCSF and the generosity of the professors, I doubt I would have made it as far as I have in my career and for that I’ll always be grateful.

The Gavà Mines Archaeological Park proposes a tour from the investigations that are made around an archaeological dig. Visitors can learn from their own experience in the park's natural environment and the lifestyle of the Neolithic community. Through this research and the latest audiovisual and multimedia technologies, they can discover what life was like for our ancestors and learn how the archaeological team in charge of the site have rebuild it on site.

Today, we watched Knowing. Here's a tip: DON'T WATCH IT. Sure, you'll be treated to some great quotes such as "THIS IS NOT A CRANK CALL!" and "I keep seeing their faces... burning," but it is not worth sitting through the entire hour and a half to reach an incredibly horrible ending.
On that note, here is the poster I made specifically for this occasion. Everything you see--except for the African rioters and Nic Cage's head--is made from scratch. The traditional "three floating heads" are present, as well as the awesome tagline (which we easily came up with after the movie ended). You can't forget that.
Photoshop is phun. I'm getting better at glowy stuff now.
Knowing the weather in N.I, getting out isnt always possible. So to keep myself busy in the bad times, thought Id try my hand at some insect photography, even though I dont like insects lol, but some of the images Ive been looking at are just as mind blowing as the best landscape images. I just bought a lens reversing ring and tried my 18-55 kit lens on the body in reverse, not having an insect at hand, I tried it on a 5p piece. Those raised letters couldnt be more than 1/4 of a mm in height, and it required 5 shots focus stacked to even get it this good lol, some parts of the lettering are still OOF. I think it could be a steep learning curve, along with some additional equipment, to get images as good as the ones Ive been looking at recently. Oh well, the weather is bad enough here, Im sure I'll get enough practice in!

The leaves go quick on these windswept clifftops, already the chill of winter blowing through. Kicked off in updrafts that send sea breezes howling past, freezing in its path, my fingers feel it first. The last lighthouse at Horton Bluff shone from 1961 to 2013, before being shuttered after the gypsum plant shut down. No big ships to light the way for any longer; memories and remnants, left to a lovely shell. I come here when I could use a reminder of direction. Finding my way is just as easy as losing it a little. Do you know what I'm saying? Pick a road and ride until it all runs out, what's the worst that could happen, really? Too often, we're unwilling to do the chore of wasting time. Every day becomes a series of errands – do this or that until light runs out. I've discovered that all my best times are had when not knowing what's next. This building never knew, and when I'm done, I hope I don't as well.

Knowing full well that lake Glenmaggie is only at around 30% capacity at the moment I knew I wouldn't get the compositions with water around the trees etc that I normally chase at this location. It did however enable me to drive to trees normally up to 4-5ft under water at their base when the lake is full

A BLUE MOON is a 2nd full moon on a calendar month and happens only every 3 years. Next one on a NEW YEAR's Eve will be on 2028. and with an ECLIPSE???

This elephant had the boring duty of carrying people all of thirty feet in a circle only to go back to have different peopel loaded on it's back and repeat. So around and around it goes. How boring. It's said that an elephant remembers every face they have ever seen. If that's true then this particular elephant must have an amazing memory. I made this card knowing how much this sweet girl loves the water. I used the sketch from Our Daily Bread Design's sketch challenge ourdailybreaddesignsblog.blogspot.com/2013/03/odbdslc145-.... I had a premade black frame that I wanted to create into a picture frame look. So I watercoloured the background with gel water colour sticks, used some cool blue paper for the waves and then stamped the fish (Recollections) and coloured with Bic Mark It markers and added some stickles and glitter (since its for a a girl!). The banner was embossed with a Cuttlebug embossing folder, sentiment was from Totally Stampalicious and My Cute Stamps and finally I scattered some blue and aqua bling. I also used glossy accents on the number 8 to make it stand out. Both the frame and #8 are popped up to create dimension. I also created a thin black border by just drawing on the edges with a black marker (picked up this tip somewhere but I can't remember). I used black to frame the image and the card after being inspired by the challenge at tsgclearstamps.blogspot.com/ #197.
