You know I can't smile without you
I can't smile without you
I can't laugh and I can't sing
I'm finding it hard to do anything
You see I feel sad when you're sad
I feel glad when you're glad
If you only knew what I'm going through
I just can't smile without you
You came along just like a song
And brightened my day
Who would have believed that you were part of a dream
Now it all seems light years away
And now you know I can't smile without you
I can't smile without you
I can't laugh and I can't sing
I'm finding it hard to do anything
You see I feel sad when you're sad
I feel glad when you're glad
If you only knew what I'm going through
I just can't smile
Now some people say happiness takes so very long to find
Well, I'm finding it hard leaving your love behind me
And you see I can't smile without you
I can't smile without you
I can't laugh and I can't sing
I'm finding it hard to do anything
You see I feel glad when you're glad
I feel sad when you're sad
If you only knew what I'm going through
I just can't smile without you
After a New Years Day walk from Star City, ended up at Duddeston Station for a train back to Birmingham New Street.
Be in the know
As you may know, I follow the Cooks Tour blog by Alison Cook from the Houston Chronicle. In particular, I am a fan of her Burger Friday feature. Sometimes, she'll catch me by surprise. Such was the case with the Salchi-burger at Brisa Cocina Mexicana.
Holy shit.
This mammoth concoction combines:
A delicious grilled bun
A layer of refried beans
A half pound of delicious ground beef
A slice of ham
Chihuahua cheese
Salchi—a Mexican jalapeno sausage
Avocado
Onion
Tomato
Lettuce
Mayo
Scared? You should be. This thing is a complete mess, but a delicious mess. Everything goes SO WELL together. The burger is made with loving care and is perfectly cooked to a juicy doneness.
The burger gets an A.
The fries… breathtaking. I don't think they are double fried, but there is some crunch on the outside of perfectly cooked soft insides. Very, very delicious.
This whole meal gets an A.
Excuse me now, because I am fighting an intense post-lunch coma.

I’m super appreciative of what good condition it’s in, including the box, so the kiddos won’t know I’m re-gifting 24 years later. 😹 . . . . . #christmas #barbie #kiddos #regift #vintage #vintagebarbie

To me, this week's challenge seemed a little nebulous... Photograph a candle or photograph a scene lit by a candle. So In this shot, I made the candle the focal point and in the next shot, the wash of warm light plays the central role. Happy SS.
We never know how high we are
Till we are called to rise;
And then, if we are true to plan,
Our statures touch the skies—
The Heroism we recite
Would be a daily thing,
Did not ourselves the Cubits warp
For fear to be a King—
I know a lot of Americans would have turned their backson a bit brace in this condition. But where I live there are very few bit braces with rosewood handles, especially in odd sizes. This one is a Stanley SW era no 915 with a 8 inch sweep. It has seen a lot of use and some abuse, but despite that it is a still a very well functioning bit brace. The top handle sits tightly in place, there just a sliver of play in the chuck and the ratchet performs well in both directions. Whats more, this one was found in the old industrial village of Billnäs and is also stamped Fiskars, which is a neighbouring village very well known for their steel products. So I assume this brace was used in the Fiskars factory workshop.

Okay, I know that this isn't about photography.....but this statue reminds me of times that I've failed to reset my exposure or missed adjusting the aperture after moving from a low-light situation into a well-lit environment. It expresses all those feelings you have when you review your shots and you discover that there was a huge drop of water on your lens....and naturally you cannot revisit the site....because it is now beyond that possibility due to distance or time. It speaks to the times when you have hiked 5 miles to photograph a waterfall...only to discover you left behind your ND filter. This statue seems to express all that can go wrong when we choose to become photographers. In reality, this is a statue in Paris. I have no recall as to it's location or real purpose or theme. I would love to lean more.....

"When the knee deep gets waist high stay rising". This is the sort of street art that really intrigues me - a conversation between the artist and the viewer that one only really notices when you feel the beat of the city through the soles of your shoes - Know Hope - Visiting artist from Tel Aviv.
Norio knows that he would much rather be on his nest next to the heater at home than in a cat carrier at the vets' clinic. However, it was time for his monthly visit for his kidney treatment, so he had to wait a while before he could go home...
Little did I know on our walk this day, that we would have to put Harley down as he became very sick and we found out he was full of cancer. It was one of those warm fall days and we were out on the Gator and I stopped at the back of the farm to take photos. Harley found his way into the cool water and did not want to leave the ditch. He always had such a heavy coat of fur and he loved to swim at any time of the year. Finally, I coaxed him out. I thought he was going to wade the entire length of the ditch. I'm glad I spent a lot of one on one time with him the last week. It was just him and I as everyone else was working on taking the crops off. I can't imagine how much pain he was in but perhaps he knew it might be the last time he would get to swim in his favourite spot. We really miss him still.
You know how I said that I didn't have to go out of my way to look for a cat to adopt?
Well, today I met Simon and Floydd. They were in DESPERATE need of a home. The rescue that they came from is full to capacity. The only place they could find for these two was in a small cramped cage in the back of a small pet store. Twice somebody had filled out paperwork to adopt them, but then never showed up to take them.
Larry and I had been talking about finding a companion cat for Leo, since Bella and Alex are so much older and Stella and May are not interested in being his buddy.
Of course it was only my intention to adopt one cat, but Simon and Floydd had become pretty good buddies in that small cramped cage, even though they are not litter mates. I hated to separate them.
So meet the newest members of Cat Hill Farms.
Both have been to the vets and have a clean bill of health. They have had their first round of shots and both have been neutered, so there will be no heartbreaking ending to this story.
Simon here is about 6 months old. He was just neutered yesterday and is still taking it easy. He is very shy and I think it will take some time for him to feel comfortable, Floydd is the complete opposite.....very friendly, and not afraid of anything! I'm hoping that he'll help Simon here make an easy transition.
