Deze gewone kameleonspin maakte nogal veel indruk op mij. De kracht waarmee ze haar lange lijn de lucht inspoot tot in een hoge boom en daarna heel snel die boom in klom om daar dan haar lijn weer in te halen om die te recupereren, dat is best knap!

We blijven nog even in Yunnan voor een bezoek aan de 人字桥 (uit te spreken als Renziqiao). Deze brug van 65m ligt tussen twee tunnels geprangd en bevindt zich maar liefst 102m boven de rivier Sicha. De Franse ingenieur Paul Borden had het idee om op deze grote hoogte vanop beide rotswanden spanten naar beneden te laten zakken, waarbij ze in het midden elkaar raakten. Vervolgens kon het brugdek worden gelegd. De brug werd voltooid in 1908 maar kostte helaas aan ruim 800 (!) arbeiders het leven. Het ging daarbij vooral om Chinezen, maar er kwamen ook Italiaanse gastarbeiders om.
In het Chinees is 人 de schrijfwijze voor een persoon of mens. Renziqiao vertaalt zich dan ook op die manier: “brug in de vorm van het karakter mens”. De Chinezen hebben het enorm voor symboliek en de brug geniet ondanks haar zeer afgelegen ligging en zware verleden dan ook een toenemende bekendheid bij toeristen. Voor bezoekers wacht een stevige klim waarna door een in dienst zijnde tunnel (!) de brug kan worden bereikt.
Spoorwegliefhebbers willen natuurlijk een trein op de brug fotograferen. Dat kan ook anno 2025 nog, maar het gaat wel maar om 1-2 treinen per dag, dus een dosis geduld is vereist. In 2015 passeerde er om de 3,5u een trein. De eerste trein die ik fotografeerde, reed van Hekou (aan de Vietnamese grens) naar Kaiyuan. De trein werd gesleept door de DF21 0002, in het midden zorgde de DFH21 056 voor extra tractie en achteraan de erg lange trein duwde ook de DF21 0012 op. Een geweldige start van mijn bezoek aan dit knappe staaltje architectuur.

We will remain in Yunnan for a while longer to visit the 人字桥 (pronounced Renziqiao). This 65-metre bridge is sandwiched between two tunnels and is located no less than 102 metres above the Sicha River. French engineer Paul Borden had the idea of lowering the two legs of the bridge from both rock walls at this great height, so that they met in the middle. The bridge deck could then be laid. The bridge was completed in 1908 but unfortunately costed the lives of more than 800 (!) workers. Most of them were Chinese, but there were also Italian guest workers among the victims.
In Chinese, 人 is the character for person or human being. Renziqiao therefore translates as “bridge in the shape of the character for human being”. The Chinese are very fond of symbolism, and despite its remote location and difficult past, the bridge is becoming increasingly popular with tourists. Visitors face a steep climb, after which the bridge can be reached through a tunnel (!) that is still in use.
Railway enthusiasts, of course, will prefer to photograph a train on the bridge. That will still be possible in 2025, but there will only be 1-2 trains per day, so a dose of patience is required. In 2015, a train passed every 3.5 hours. The first train I photographed was travelling from Hekou (on the Vietnamese border) to Kaiyuan. The train was pulled by the DF21 0002, with the DFH21 056 providing extra traction in the middle and the DF21 0012 pushing at the rear of the very long train. A great start to my visit to this fine piece of architecture.

Nabij Marche-lez-Ecaussinnes is er een nieuw knap fotopunt ontstaan aan het plaatselijk viaduct.
Aangezien we toch in de buurt waren was het een kleintje om eens rap te gaan kijken of het ook makkelijk bereikbaar is (voor geïnteresseerden "jawel hoor").
Er stond niet echt nog cargo op het programma maar ook de Desiro die op 23 mei 2020 gebruikt werd voor het verzekeren van de InterCity tussen Manage (wegens werkzaamheden kwam deze trein namelijk niet van Binche( en Schaarbeek misstaat niet op deze machtige brug.

As we were in the neighboorhood, it was a simple plan to make a little stop on this new created spot location on our way back home. After a little waiting time the IC towards Brussels was passing by, - conveniently for the third time that day the sun was once again present ;-)

The sun was just in the clouds at the top, with a window letting it spotlight the rocks, and with a very red horizon.
(The tiny dot on the horizon is the ferry from Kintyre to Islay, which I suppose I ought to erase.)

Ade's stone cold glare reflects the icy feel of the stone scattered background, captured on a bitter winters day at The Knap, Barry.
With an average tidal range of 15m along the south-east Wales coast, driftwood can often be left some distance from the water at low tide. Porthkerry beach, near Barry.
År 1772 inrättade makarna Knape genom testamente en stiftelse för att skapa hem och skolgång för studiebegåvade och behövande gossar från Bohuslän. Samma år dog hustrun Katarina Hegardt. 1774 stadfäste Gustav III stiftelsen. Därmed uppstod Sveriges första internatskola. Då ändrades också namnet, med Gustav III:s samtycke, från Baggetofta till Gustafsbergs Barnhusinrättning.
I enlighet med makarna Knapes donationsbrev har stiftelsen bedrivit skolverksamhet. Anders Knape var den förste direktören för styrelsen. Antalet elever reglerades 1782 till 30 pojkar mellan 6 och 16 år. Knapes stiftelse har också sedan starten lämnat stipendier åt ett antal pojkar och flickor från Bohuslän. Dessa utlämnas fortfarande. Internatverksamheten bedrevs till en början i landeriets huvudbyggnad från 1770-talet (idag kallad "Herrgården"). En ny byggnad i trä stod klar 1854 men brann 1894. En ny tegelbyggnad, ritad av arkitekten Eugen Thorburn, invigdes 1897. Undervisningen upphörde i mitten av förra seklet men internatverksamhetens upphörde först 1976. Då började eleverna på Uddevallas gymnasieskolor. Detta skolhus inrymmer idag Gustafsbergsstiftelsens expeditioner, kontor som hyrs ut samt konferensrum.
Auf einem der Gütergleise des Wormser Hauptbahnhofs wartet V180.08 (ex 202 569) der Knape Bahnhbau auf den nächsten Einsatz für die Riedbahnbaustelle. Im Hintergrund huscht derweil der südwärts fahrende und zur ICE 3neo Flotte gehörende Tz 8016 vorbei.
"Belas Knap is a neolithic chambered long barrow, situated on Cleeve Hill, near Cheltenham and Winchcombe, in Gloucestershire, England. It is a scheduled ancient monument in the care of English Heritage but managed by Gloucestershire County Council. "Belas" is possibly derived from the Latin word bellus, 'beautiful', which could describe the hill or its view. "Knap" is derived from the Old English for the top, crest, or summit of a hill.
It is a type of monument known as the Cotswold Severn Cairn, all of which have a similar trapezoid shape, and are found scattered along the River Severn. Belas Knap is described in the English Heritage designation listing statement as an "outstanding example representing a group of long barrows commonly referred to as the Cotswold-Severn group"." - From Wikipedia

' Golden Hour '
This was taken on Saturday down the knap in Barry. It was an aweful day for lighting because it was too bright all day but for 5 minutes just before sunset I managed to capture one of the best light shows ive seen. There was this amazing contrast of orange and blue accross the whole ocean, and it looked awesome. I had managed to capture 2 shots as this happened and this is one of them.
