Z Grzesia rozpościera się piękna panorama Tatr, więc będąc na urlopie w Bukowinie Tatrzańskiej udaliśmy się do Doliny Chochołowskiej, skąd spod schroniska górskiego PTTK na Polanie Chochołowskiej im.Jana Pawła II żółtym szlakiem ruszyliśmy w górę. Zamierzaliśmy wdrapać się na szczyt, żeby podziwiać krajobraz Tatr.
Grześ to szczyt w Tatrach Zachodnich o wysokości 1653 m n.p.m., położony w północnej grani Wołowca. Na Grzesiu znajduje się skrzyżowanie szlaków turystycznych. Szlakiem żółtym można zejść do Doliny Chochołowskiej (lub pójść szlakiem niebieskim odłączającym się na wysokości Przełęczy Boborwieckiej do Boborwieckiej Doliny Orawskiej), szlakiem niebieskim można pójść na Rakoń (i dalej na Wołowiec i Jarząbczy Wierch) natomiast szlakiem zielonym, prowadzącym na stronę słowacką, do Zadniej Doliny Łatanej lub na Przełęcz nad Kotłowym Żlebem.

Iets meer dan een halfuur later was, na nog een passage van een saaie Beacon 193, de volgende interessante goederentrein in zicht. Met een beladen grindtrein van knap 4000 ton aan de haak is de zesassige Captrain 159 102 onderweg vanuit Mühlberg naar Nordhorn als het de fotograaf bij de WSSB-overweg in Güterglück richting Magdeburg passeert.
Juvenille little owl......jong steenuiltje. Taken from a birdhide in Belgium because however I have seen these owls on Samos and in Portugal I find it allmost impossible to get a closer shot of them, they scare easily. From a hide its much easier but you still have to be patience and alert.
A 1000 year old chapel with the Paps of Jura in the background and some really old grave-stones in the foreground.
This chapel now houses a great collection of really old gravestones (over 1000 years old some of them) and has a glass roof for allowing the best possible inspection of them. Will put a photo of them on later.

Worth viewing large size. I was in two minds as to whether to upload this shot or not. It's the sister image to my previous shot from the Knap. I thought I'd try a more unorthodox composition but can't decide if it works or not! Any feedback , suggestions or comments gratefully received. I've got a nasty feeling it might just be a little tad pretentious ;-)
Havik/hawk een beetje scoutend vanaf een tak over er iets te halen viel. Het licht was knap lastig maar ik vond de plek zo mooi waar hij zat dat ik blij ben met deze foto :-)

Nog een Reiger foto, deze viste met enige regelmaat een visje op van ongeveer 10 cm groot.
Knap dat de Reiger het zag.

The trees still have a leafless, wintery feel but over the next few days they will be greening up and the mists will become less frequent until the autumn.

Hier was het al knap donker, dus een probeersel met verschillende belichtingen...10, 30 en 60 sec. en samengevoegd tot HDR in Lightroom en bewerkt in PS. Ik had liever de brug er meer op gehad, dus een aandachtspuntje!
We blijven nog even in Yunnan voor een bezoek aan de 人字桥 (uit te spreken als Renziqiao). Deze brug van 65m ligt tussen twee tunnels geprangd en bevindt zich maar liefst 102m boven de rivier Sicha. De Franse ingenieur Paul Borden had het idee om op deze grote hoogte vanop beide rotswanden spanten naar beneden te laten zakken, waarbij ze in het midden elkaar raakten. Vervolgens kon het brugdek worden gelegd. De brug werd voltooid in 1908 maar kostte helaas aan ruim 800 (!) arbeiders het leven. Het ging daarbij vooral om Chinezen, maar er kwamen ook Italiaanse gastarbeiders om.
In het Chinees is 人 de schrijfwijze voor een persoon of mens. Renziqiao vertaalt zich dan ook op die manier: “brug in de vorm van het karakter mens”. De Chinezen hebben het enorm voor symboliek en de brug geniet ondanks haar zeer afgelegen ligging en zware verleden dan ook een toenemende bekendheid bij toeristen. Voor bezoekers wacht een stevige klim waarna door een in dienst zijnde tunnel (!) de brug kan worden bereikt.
Spoorwegliefhebbers willen natuurlijk een trein op de brug fotograferen. Dat kan ook anno 2025 nog, maar het gaat wel maar om 1-2 treinen per dag, dus een dosis geduld is vereist. In 2015 passeerde er om de 3,5u een trein. De eerste trein die ik fotografeerde, reed van Hekou (aan de Vietnamese grens) naar Kaiyuan. De trein werd gesleept door de DF21 0002, in het midden zorgde de DFH21 056 voor extra tractie en achteraan de erg lange trein duwde ook de DF21 0012 op. Een geweldige start van mijn bezoek aan dit knappe staaltje architectuur.

We will remain in Yunnan for a while longer to visit the 人字桥 (pronounced Renziqiao). This 65-metre bridge is sandwiched between two tunnels and is located no less than 102 metres above the Sicha River. French engineer Paul Borden had the idea of lowering the two legs of the bridge from both rock walls at this great height, so that they met in the middle. The bridge deck could then be laid. The bridge was completed in 1908 but unfortunately costed the lives of more than 800 (!) workers. Most of them were Chinese, but there were also Italian guest workers among the victims.
In Chinese, 人 is the character for person or human being. Renziqiao therefore translates as “bridge in the shape of the character for human being”. The Chinese are very fond of symbolism, and despite its remote location and difficult past, the bridge is becoming increasingly popular with tourists. Visitors face a steep climb, after which the bridge can be reached through a tunnel (!) that is still in use.
Railway enthusiasts, of course, will prefer to photograph a train on the bridge. That will still be possible in 2025, but there will only be 1-2 trains per day, so a dose of patience is required. In 2015, a train passed every 3.5 hours. The first train I photographed was travelling from Hekou (on the Vietnamese border) to Kaiyuan. The train was pulled by the DF21 0002, with the DFH21 056 providing extra traction in the middle and the DF21 0012 pushing at the rear of the very long train. A great start to my visit to this fine piece of architecture.

The Small Tortoiseshell is among the most well-known butterflies in Britain and Ireland. The striking and attractive patterning and its appearance at almost any time of the year in urban areas have made it a familiar species. It is one of the first butterflies to be seen in spring and in the autumn it often visits garden flowers in large numbers.

It is a stiff half mile walk up to it from the road and it
was very hot today, but rewarding when we got there.
Sergels Torg, het hart van het winkelcentrum van de stad. Het is knap ontworpen, alle doorgaande verkeer is heel efficiënt weggewerkt. Onder de grond ligt een drukke verkeersweg en iets verderop het knooppunt van de drie metrolijnen. Sinds een aantal jaren is er ook nog een station voor alle regionale treindiensten bij gekomen.
Daarvoor moest wel een flink stuk stad worden afgebroken. De vraag is of het eindresultaat boven de grond nou zo geweldig is geslaagd. Het is niet echt lelijk en het is goed onderhouden, maar nogal inwisselbaar met veel andere steden die ooit zo zijn gemoderniseerd.
