This falls is interesting because the rock strata are bent at the bottom turning the water. The moss has been growing at a higher rate because there are more onsen hotels upstream dumping nutrients into the water.

The 'honden' or main hall of the shrine dedicated to Ninigi no Mikoto, grandson of the sun goddess Amaterasu, who descended to earth to found Japan and become the first emperor. This shrine was built on this site in 1715, as the original site, at the base of Takachiho-no-mine was too close to the volcano to survive. After being destroyed many times, somebody got smart and moved it farther away to this site. The original site still has foundation stones and a stone toriii, just up from the parking lot on the trail up the mountain.
Located near Kirishima Jingu (Kirishima Shrine), this waterfall called Maruo Waterfall is a rare hot water fall. All the onsen (hot springs) in the surrounding areas of Kirishima mountain gets gathered and runs as a river filled with hot water. We could not observe steam coming out from its hot water that day but still a beautiful 23 metre high waterfall was quite a pleasure to see.

Looking SW into the mountains from the Takasaki River Valley near the Miyazaki Kokusai Airport Country Club. Much of Japan's forests have been harvested and replanted into monculture forestry, turning the indigenous hardwood forests into the dark colored pine. It's what makes places that have any remaining natural vegetation tourist attractions in the fall.
