The edition contains 360 mounted colour, b/w, and duo-tone illustrations in the text and 40 plates in three states, sepia-tone, partly hand-coloured, and finished coloured state. The plates are protected with captioned tissue-guards. The paper size is 15 3/4 x 13 ins; image size varies (c 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 ins).
Illustration was completed after Tissot's death in 1902 by Henri Bellery-Desfontaines, Auguste François Gorguet, Charles Hoffbauer, Louis van Parys, Michel Simonidy and Georges Bertin Scott.
Of the 561 copies printed, the John Rylands Library (Manchester) copy is an "exemplaire unique". As well as the triple set of the large plates in various states, and a series of proofs before letters of the illustrations appearing in the text, it contains a water colour drawing by Tissot ("Joseph presents his father Jacob to Pharaoh"), his original pen and ink sketches for this work, and an autograph letter by him.

Stones in the floor of the Room of the Last Supper, a second-story room in Jerusalem that commemorates the "upper room" in which Jesus shared the Last Supper with His disciples. It is located directly above the Tomb of King David and near the Abbey of the Dormition on Mount Zion. This room was built in the 12th century, but may have been built on or near the actual site of the Last Supper.

The foundation stones of a large 10th Century BCE building, According to archaeologist Eilat Mazar, who heads the excavation, this building was a large public building, and could only have been erected by a major kingdom. The dating of the structure sets it at the time of the rule of King Solomon or King David, and the structure therefore serves as direct evidence of the existence of their realm and its importance.
The Coenaculum is a building on Mount Zion in Jerusalem that is the traditional site of the tomb of King David. The building also houses the Room of the Last Supper.

The edition, of which 561 copies were printed, contains 360 mounted colour, black-and-white and duo-tone illustrations in the text and 40 plates in three states: sepia-tone, partly hand-coloured, and finished coloured state. The plates are protected with captioned tissue-guards. The paper size is 15.75 x 13 ins; image size varies (circa 8.5 x 5.5 ins).
The paintings for all 400 Illustrations were based exclusively on the complete sketches (the inspiration being entirely Tissot's). The first 200 illustrations covering the Book of Genesis through to the story of Jephthah's daughter in the Book of Judges were painted by Tissot. The last remaining 200 illustrations were painted after Tissot's death in 1902 by Henri Bellery-Desfontaines, Auguste François Gorguet, Charles Hoffbauer, Louis van Parys, Michel Simonidy and Georges Bertin Scott.

In memory of Thornton Warner Clogstoun, who was born around 1843 in Trinidad, West Indies, and became a lieutenant in the 9th East Norfolk Regiment, depicts David King of Israel and Jonathan son of Saul. The modern face of Jonathan could be that of the lieutenant.
The names of famous battles are shown at the base of the two lights. Many of these battles were of the Peninsular War, part of England’s attempts to contain Napoleon's expansion across Europe. Sevastopol dates from the Crimea War of (1854–1855) so was fresh in people’s memories.
This photo shows the close proximity that three religions reside in Jerusalem. The bottom floor is Davids Tomb, a Jewish holy site; the top floor is the Cenacle or the Upper Room, a Christian holy site; and on top of all this is a Muslim minaret. The clock tower of the Dormition Church is also visible.
