Event keepsake
A friend asked me to do a
photo shoot of some flowers
that were used in a celebration
for her daughter. This is one of
several dozen shots that I took.
The MM theme for 6/26 is keepsake and this takes a bit of explanation. A while ago my SIL found a glass class for us to take together and we both each made a paperweight and a slump bowl. It was a very hands-on class and she even took some video of the process.
So this week I took dozens and dozens of pictures trying to capture how cool this paperweight truly is and discovered anew that it’s not easy shooting into a glass object. In a bit I’ll add two pictures that show it a bit farther out and the size verification picture as well

This is a fridge magnet that my recently deceased mother had for many years. It occasionally disappears to be found later enjoying the seclusion of recently cut flowers.
Many thanks for all views, fav's - and particularly comments - all are greatly appreciated!

The 6/26/23 Macro Mondays theme is Keepsake.
Several years ago, we took a road trip through the American Southwest, and one of the more interesting places we visited was Taos, New Mexico, where lots of wonderful works of art were on display, and it was there that my wife Sammy bought this tiny 1¼-inch turtle.
This shows the handwritten inscription on the front page of a Bible that was given to my Uncle Jimmy by his father. This was one of my mum’s treasured possessions, as her brother died in his early twenties & her father also died when she was quite young. It’s a precious link to family members that I never met.
From my late mother's collection of ornamental elephants. Taken for Macro Mondays theme "keepsake" (height: 4 cm ).
Bringing the outdoors in.
Collected these shells from the local Brighton Beach when the kids were only a few years old. The sand from one of the beautiful beaches down in the Bay of Fires in Tasmania in 2017. Beach is in comments.

This little bee was made by my son countless years ago. Why I still have this small collection of these little creatures made from Fimo modelling clay I don’t know, but I do know that whenever I come across them, they make me smile remembering happy days.
Keepsake, since many many years, bought for bike trip, and still have it.
Normally in the kitchen drawer, but for bike trips it still comes out.
Size wise, from just behind the logo, to the tip of the knife less then 33 mm, knife height 12 mm. For taking the photo, placed on a slate, but a box of matches below the knife, a kitchen sponge below a small torch to generate some slate to accentuate the falloff of the light and modify the DOF.
And this time, I will post in the group Macro Monday for keepsake.
A precious keepsake, reminding me of friends & visits to Jersey - happy memories of people & a beautiful place.

currently in love with that book. I've been reading it all day because school was cancelled. it made me cry. the only time i got up today was to take this picture, eat, shovel, and edit this picture. other than that I've been reading. so yeah.
i decided to make this picture part of my project instead because i took it today and i edited it and i really really liked how i edited it and that doesn't happen often so here it is. I'm 4 weeks away from this project being over. what. i don't know what's going to happen then…

We recently went to see Penn & Teller on stage in London, and to say it was an amazing show is an understatement! One magic trick they did involved these cards, where, after tearing them in half, keeping half of one, then seemingly at random discarding the other halves, by the end you we were all left with matching half-cards .. amazing!
It's worn down, it's old, it outdated. But it was my granddad's.
An old Dutch pocket dictionary, published by Spectrum in 1955!
Taken with another keepsake: my late dad's old Meyer-Optik Orestor 135mm f/2.8, with the help of some extension tubes.

This tiny Eiffel Tower is just one of five charms on a vintage bracelet that my mother bought while we were living in France during my fathers service time. The Eiffel Tower is 1.25" tall.
This knife is a present given by her grand-father to my wife when she was five years old. The blade is about 2 cm long. This is the older item of her penknife collection.
A tiny damascene plate (about 1.5") that I got in a small shop in Toledo, Spain, on my trip last summer. It shows Don Quixote and Sancho Panza on their epic journey.
When my grandma passed over 20 years ago, my dad offered me her sewing kit. I jumped at it. It was filled with all her little notions: bias tape and zippers, buttons and snaps, thimbles and thread...
There were 2 things that made it even more special than I had originally anticipated. First, I found all kinds of quotes and poems cut out from magazines and newspapers tucked away in the kit. I am a quote keeper and a poet. I never knew that my grandma did this too. It made me miss her so much and wish I could talk to her about it.
The second surprise find was her nurses pin. I was so happy to have something with her name on it. Being a nurse was always very important to her. She would be glad that someone kept it for safe keeping.
I still have all the things from her kit. The box she had it in was broken and unable to be repaired, so I bought a new one. I have added many things of my own to the kit over these 20 plus years, but I rarely use any of grandmas things. I like to just have them and take them out from time to time and think of her. Maybe one day I will have a granddaughter to pass on the sewing kit.
HMM!

Macro Monday theme Keepsake
A keepsake passed through several generations. This ring with memories will last forever!
two closely linked keepsakes: a piece of the Berlin Wall and the medal for my run through a free Berlin
I thought these were pretty cool. These were at Ashton's shower. These tiny "pacifiers" are made out of lifesavers and jelly beans! Pretty clever huh?! I woulda never thought of doing this. Maybe I'll steal this idea if/when I have my next kid!
Hope all is well with you, my friends! Have a blessed Sunday!
week 4:REMEMBERING WHEN . . .
I don't have any keepsakes from my childhood so I went with this. One of my very earliest memories was of visiting this beach, Castlepoint, as a small child. It was my first time at the beach. My dad stood me in the water but, as the waves retreated down the sand, I felt as if I was being sucked out to sea along with the small stones, shells and sand rushing around my feet. I panicked and screamed before being 'rescued' and carried back up the beach. Although it was probably a calm day and only about ankle deep my mind imagined the waves were like this image from a few days ago.
