A Gentoo penguin keeps a close eye on its 2 chicks - - there were many Skuas flying overhead but I'm hoping these guys were just large enough to be a little safer.

What's unique about these penguin colonies in the Antarctic is that the families are at many differing cycles of the reproduction cycle. (( We could see some on eggs, some newborn's, some already 6 to 8 weeks old )) Its unique to this area because of the amount of krill available for an extended period of the year.

My sister keeps telling me I have a big bubble and it’s true. I don’t let people in. I think it’s because relying on someone makes me feel weak. But anyone that knows me, understands that my family is everything.

Well, I got to tell you, today I feel weak as I wait on news from my dad. He is getting briefed on future heart surgery and it leaves me feeling scared. I don’t know about you but I always thought my dad to be invincible. Apparently I’m not either. Wearing my heart on my sleeve today and hoping for better days ahead.

I only chose this track by Tom Waits, because the first line is "on our anniversary ", and as it's our anniversary today it's perfect. The light went this afternoon as the cloud cover increased, so I decided to make something to photograph. There was this 8 feet long sleeper and a massive tree trunk washed up at high tide, so I had a go at balancing structures at either end. It took a lot of sliding to get it started, but was great fun, and good exercise for my back .

I've shot this bendy beech a few times now and each time it is the tree that keeps giving, especially with the curving track that sweeps around it. The mist just adds to the atmosphere as the soft light percolates through the canopy to highlight the path ahead. I'm sure it will feature many more times to come too! The last one this year in my garden

Historic centre of Riga keeps a lot of secrets and mysteries, one of which is leading to the dome square inconspicuous street, situated in the heart of the old city. This short, tucked away behind the houses and the Central streets of the street of the old Riga is the most narrow street in town and its name was Rosen (Rozena iela)

According to one of the width of the street Rosen is only 1 meter 10 centimeters, others - 1 meter 80 centimeters.

Street Rosen was formed in the 13th century when the land was inhabited by the Smiths, and still her name came from the basic occupation of the inhabitants. The street was called a Blacksmith. The present name of the street, Rosen, emerged only in the 17th century, in honor of living on the streets of Bishop Rosen. Once this face was the city's first foundry, in which he cast bells and cannon. Unfortunately, until the present day workshop has not survived.

From the middle ages to the present time street Rosen outwardly kept the old Riga pavement, with typical for those times slant to the middle of the street to prevent the ingress of water into buildings.

At the beginning of the Rozena street, on crossing with street Krum (Kramu iela) once housed the oldest wine cellar in the city wine warehouses Riga rata. The first mention of them is stored in the Riga manuscripts dates back to the year 1293. Now a wine cellar on the street of Rosen included among the attractions of the city. Currently this place is the authentic historical restaurant "Rozengrals", made in the medieval style.

These mallard ducklings had grown a little beyond the ultra-cute stage by the time that I saw them last week, but they were still wearing their baby fuzz. :-)
