Shiite Muslim women weep at the scene of the bomb explosions which rocked the holy city of Karbala, 110 kms (70 miles) south of Baghdad, during the annual Shiite Muslim ritual of Ashura 02 March 2004. An AFP reporter saw at least 30 bodies piled up outside the hospital in Karbala after blasts rocked the sacred Iraqi city as more than a million Shiites marked their holiest day of the year. More casualties were being brought in all the time on stretchers, wrapped in blankets and dripping blood, in ambulances or private cars. AFP PHOTO/Ahmad AL-RUBAYE
The Day of Ashura (عاشوراء (ʻĀshūrā’, Ashura, Ashoura, and other spellings) is on the 10th day of Muharram in the Islamic calendar and marks the climax of the Remembrance of Muharram.

What makes the mornings beautiful is watching Marziya perform namaz before going to school and than going to her Arabic classes later after school and learning Persian with my wife they get along like fish and chips on the same plate and they are both praying to go to Karbala for Ashura .
10th of Muharram (the day of Ashura / Ashoora) is observed as an important day by Muslims.
Ashura as the day of martyrdom of Hussein ibn Ali, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad at the Battle of Karbala. Shia Muslims, therefore, consider this a day of sorrow and observe it as such by refraining from music, listening to sorrowful poetic recitations, wearing mourning attire, and refraining from all joyous events that in anyway distract them from the sorrowful remembrance of that day.
Reenactments and plays are performed, attempting to relive the tragedy and keep the lessons of this event alive.
Some Shi'a Muslims beat and flog themselves in parades on this day, to express their grief and to reenact the pain that Hussein suffered.

19th of Ramzan 1434 A.H. - Shab-e-zarbat of the commander of faithfuls Imam Ali(a.s.) and the first probable night of Qadr (Shab-e-Qadr). As per Islamic system of calendar the night of 19th Ramzan starts when the fast of 18th Ramzan is completed in the evening.
Shab-e-Zarbat of Imam Ali(a.s.)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This is the night of great diffiulty for the Ahl-e-Bait(a.s.) and all momineen and mominaat. This evening of 40 Hijrah, as always, Imam Ali(a.s.) only had salt and some water for iftar and from then on he was busy throughout the night in prayers with tears rolling out of his eyes.
He was repeatedly reciting "I have insufficient belongings for the journey and the journey is too long" - referring to the forthcoming journey towards his Lord(swt). The whole night, his children were besides him and were amazed and guessing as to what was so special about this night. They were to know about it only in the next morning when the commander of the faithful and the Wali of Allah(swt) Imam Ali(a.s.) was attacked during the fajr prayers by a munafiq and mal'on ibn-e-Muljim(may Allah curse him) and fatally injured by a sword which was dipped in poison. This was the time when Imam Ali(a.s.) uttered his famous words : "Fuzto warab-il-Kaaba" - "By the Rab of Kaaba, I am successful". His sons Imam Hasan(a.s.), Imam Hussain(a.s.) together with close companions of Imam Ali(a.s.) brought him to his house among tears and cries. It was here that Imam Ali(a.s.) asked his friends to leave him and asked his sons to take him inside the house where his daughters, who had received the news of him being injured, were anxiously waiting to see their father. Even during this period of hardship, Imam Ali(a.s.) had so much care for his daughters that no one would hear even their cries. But in Karbala, the daughters of Imam Ali(a.s.) and Imam Hussain(a.s.) were brutally and savagely maltreated. (Ala Lanat ullah-e ala qaum iz-zalameen) - May Allah(swt) curse the cruel tribe which committed atrocities on the Ahl-e-Bait(a.s.) of Prophet Mohammad(sawaw). People resent Lal Masjid cleric’s attempt to flee in burqa
* Some demand govt try Maulana Aziz for the killings of innocent people, others say it was a drama
PESHAWAR: Many people said on Thursday that they resented Lal Masjid chief cleric Maulana Abdul Aziz’s attempt to escape in a burqa, terming it a disgrace to ulema.
Outraged citizens demanded that the government try the Lal Masjid chief in a court and punish him for the killings of innocent people and for bringing untold miseries to many families. Maulana Abdul Aziz was arrested on Wednesday while attempting to escape security forces around the mosque in a burqa.
“He should have fought till the end and died to prove what he did was right,” said Gohar Ali, a young banker, during a survey conducted by Daily Times.
Raees Khan, a public transport driver, said the Lal Masjid incident and the chief cleric’s act had maligned the image of ulema held in high esteem by society. “This man must be tried in a court as he has brought our religion into disrepute,” said Khan.
Advocate Eissa Khan said it was a drama staged by the government to justify the army’s further stay in power. “Rulers want to tell the West and America that terrorist elements have reached Islamabad and only the army can handle them,” he said.
Muhammad Siddiq, owner of a grocery store, said the way Maulana Aziz tried to escape, and that too in a burqa, indicated it was all a drama. “Had the Maulana been sincere he would have preferred death to earn a name and not have run like he did,” said the grocer.
A retired government official, requesting anonymity said the Lal Masjid incident was aimed at sabotaging the proposed All Parties Conference (APC) taking place in London from July 7. “It seems to me the Lal Masjid incident was nothing more than a political game to achieve certain objectives,” he said.
“How come Lal Masjid clerics and students had latest weapons?” asked Ibrahim, an auto mechanic. He said that if the mosque’s chief cleric had been on the right path he would have resisted till death.
Samad, an accountant, said the Lal Masjid ulema used innocent children as a shield. “From now on no one will send their children to madrassas, as people have lost confidence in ulema,” said Samad.
Awami National Party (ANP) leader advocate Nasir Khan said, “Rulers want to give a message to the European Union and America that terrorists have reached Islamabad and it’s only the army that is capable of quashing them.”
The head of the Lal Masjid, Abdul Aziz Ghazi, posed as an ''aunty'' while trying to escape on Wednesday in a burqa from the shrine surrounded by Pakistani troops.
Considered as the mastermind of the present stand off, Aziz, his wife and daughter, all wearing burqas, managed to walk past the first level of security manned by paramilitary Rangers but was caught by Islamabad women police constables while physically checking him.
As the women constables approached to check Aziz, his wife referred to him as an aunty who was very sick and asked the constables to not to touch him. But the women constables insisted on checking and yelled to see a bearded ''aunty'' beneath the burqa.
At this point of time he along with his daughter tried to run back to the Lal Majid, but was caught, officials said. It was only later they came to know that he was Aziz.
The title ''Aunty'' became famous as Aziz's moral brigade a few months ago had abducted a woman called ''Aunty Shamim'', a middle aged woman from the near by locality alleging that she ran a brothel.
Arrest weakens movement
Lal Masjid spokesman Abdul Qayyum Haqqani said that Aziz had gone out of the mosque without consulting anyone.
But, Maulana Abdul Rashid Ghazi, Aziz's brother and Deputy of the Lal Masjid, said that the cleric went out of the mosque to meet an ''important'' personality. Ghazi also confirmed that wife of Maulana Abdul Aziz was arrested.
Ghazi said Aziz was the main source behind the Lal Masjid movement, saying the arrest has weakened the movement and there is possibility to suspend the movement for some time. Maulana Abdul Aziz was shifted to unknown location for questioning, official sources said.
He will face charges of terrorism, murder, kidnapping and many others as cases have already registered against him.
