You didn't even meet each other. You didn't even know one another. But the two orbited each other anyway. Both had a story to tell. Both had something in common. Both lived in separate universes. It was hard to say what made them resonate, but that is the nature of the multiverse - we never know who we are going to change the life of. All we have to do is say something and it may make a heart stay resolute.

An homage to Apollo. Kara never met you, but I think she'd like you.

Kara who used to be quite active on Tumblr as Telescopical. I don't recall the fine details of our first contact but I'm sure I got in touch with her and I think it was because she'd modeled for a local newspaper. Regardless, she and I had a wonderful couple of photosessions and really enjoyed our creative collaborations. Sadly, she moved away for a few years and although she's back in this part of the country I think she's not interested in modelling anymore. But wow, what fun we had.

“Well… You know what I am.” Kara stood there waiting and observing the half elf woman, who stood with the look of someone who had just witnessed hell rise and fall in the battlefield. A slight nod as her wide blue eyes started to tear up. “And?”

“Are you going to kill me?” That smug grin curled Kara’s crimson lips. “Now that I know, are you going to collect my soul?” Her voice was shaking and it caused a feeling that the demon did not like. Usually she enjoyed the fear and screams of those she tortured or taunted. Though her intention here was not to torture nor taunt the woman. That smirk faded and her two toned eyes turned away from the frightened creature in front of her.

“No. Actually, I am going to offer you the thing that only one individual in all of my existence ever offered to me. Freedom, power and a home with a door that will always be open to you. I could not kill you… Nor would I ever want to.” Her voice became soft and low as she looked up. “Dawn, I could never and would never.” The half elf stood there watching her for a long moment before one foot in front of the other she came closer. Kara had kept her distance since the vision, not wanting to cause Dawn to freak out any further than she already was.

“You could kill… You could easily rip me limb from limb… Why wouldn’t you? I know your secret.”

“I could, physically yes. But I could not.” There was a slight shrug as she tried to ignore the growing feeling in her chest. “Would you tell everyone? Send me back to the nine hells of the abyss? Even if you did… I would not kill you.”

“Demons can’t love.”

“Most demons.. No.”

“Do you love me?” There was a long pause, long enough that Dawn had made it within inches of Kara’s face, forcing eye to eye contact so that the demon could not look away.

“As much as a demon could love another thing that is not themselves.”

“If I leave, you will hunt me down?”

“No.. You will have true freedom.” Kara placed her hand on Dawn’s hip. “But if ever you called my name in need, I would come running… and all of hell’s fury with me.” Dawn’s own hands raised up to rest on Kara’s shoulder and side of her ribs.

“Say it.” Kara’s arms wrapped around Dawn. “SAY IT!” Dawn’s body shook as tears ran down her cheeks.

“I love you, Dawn.”

“I can’t stay.”

“I know.” Their foreheads met.

“I… I love you, too.” Kara embraced her in a deep kiss... And for the first time since her sisters had been torn from her, she felt whole again. Then the sudden empty would start to cause a void in her heart again, as Dawn pushed away. She was leaving already.

“You can replace me… I will take you up on the freedom you offer while I can. As much as I love you… I love life a lot more.” Kara sat and watched as she gathered her things and walked out the door… then sank down to the chair next to the table.

“You’re not replaceable. No one is. There is no one like you in all of the worlds combined. It was why I chose you. Demons don’t love.” She said softly into the silent empty room. “Because if they did, what is left of their hearts would break and they would become nothing.” She took a deep breath and upon exhaling a cloud of dark ash like smoke circled from her lips and floated around the room. Emotionless, she then stood up and left the house to return to her job with the Wyverns.

Kara in Destin, Florida, USA on October 8, 2016

When Kara and I started to plan our photo sessoin, she mentioned she'd love to do something with paint on her body. I was worried at first about the mess on my studio floor but with a plastic tarp and a shower at hand, it was all managed nicely. She had a great time with this.

"Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some people move our souls to dance. They awaken us to a new understanding with the passing whisper of their wisdom. Some people make the sky more beautiful to gaze upon. They stay in our lives for awhile, leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never, ever the same." — Flavia

Kara, a young woman of 27, was laid to rest today. I met her when she was twelve and spent several years working and playing with her in a young women's church organization as her leader. We went to girls camp together and that's where she really left a mark on my heart. Her courageous spirit will be missed.

This is a shot of my favorite tree (I've photographed it several times now) and tonight I dedicate it to Kara's memory! Rest softly sweet Kara...

Kara Te is one of the few Kaminoans who survived the Empire's destruction of the cloning facility on Kamino, and she is a scientist at heart and a clever inventor. After her lab and home was destroyed, she went into hiding from the Empire and continued her scientific research in secret using any scrap that she could gather. For any hard-to-find parts that she needed, she had to resort to buying from the black market which is where she met Vigo. He used to sell her electronic parts, and when the Outcasts needed a medic and engineer, he recruited her for the team due to her great scientific knowledge. She builds all of the teams gadgets such as Sabreena's jetpack, Vig's detonators, and Scrapper's body, and she even invented a device that can detect nearby valuable items to scavenge. Despite what her name might suggest, Kara is not good at fighting and will avoid conflict as much as possible, usually keeping to herself, although she does carry a vibro-blade for defense and is always happy to use her tech skills to get the team out of dangerous situations. She also wears a helmet that she modified with various gizmos and carries a pack of parts and tools wherever she goes. Kara is a calm and rational thinker which often puts her at odds with Vig's wild and juvenile behavior.

Same guy as below but on a different day. You can see what I mean about always having a smile or smirk on his face. Also you can see the difference between being painted up and not.

The Karo (Kara) tribe villages are next to the Omo River in the south of Ethiopia. We camped nearby.

When we drove to the nearby Kara village in the afternoon, and the skies opened up!

With the weather being so chancy, we took shelter in the school and set up a a black cloth and a soft-box lighting system to take some “studio” shots of the youngsters who have gone to so much trouble with their body art.
