Menomonie, WI
Well, technically her name is now Kara Keller - she got married last month! Kara has been one of my good friends for years, and one of the first girls that I ever took photos of (she is also the only person who has their own set on my Flickr). I haven't shot with her in SO long (the last time was last fall for her family's Christmas pictures haha). We hung out for a couple hours before my senior session on Sunday and only shot for a short while. This is one of my favorite dresses ever (belonged to my mom) and it fit her perfectly! We shot in & around her house, which ended up being perfect for this look :)

Kara Trapdoor with her black hair went out riding in her white outfit on her white horse.
Quite separately I, at the same time with my white hair went out riding in my black outfit on my black horse.
We had not previously known each other.... and it was fun to meet and see ourselves in reverse reflection.

So DC has yet another TV show primed and ready to throw at your television (not to mention Teen Titans, and Legends of Tomorrow right on their heels)
CBS's Supergirl trailer has just dropped earlier today:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lm46-envrHo
Now to be honest, I've got some mixed feeling over it. The first being that not a single time was the Superman name used. This is becoming a really weirdly drawn thin line between DCCU and The Arrow-verse because like, her origins and bigger story-arcs are heavily reliant on him. I feel like most people see her as a Superman protege anyway, so you'd think they'd at least name drop him once, but hey, I don't work in DC's legal department.
It's just getting a little funky, like does this mean that the DCCU can't use characters like Supergirl, without them just being references, like the "My Cousin" phrase they kept using? Hell, we're gonna have two different live action Flash's by 2018... but I dunno... I probably shouldn't be so bent out of shape because of over thinking something :P
Anyway, if you guys have some venting to do about this trailer (like I do, clearly), let me know what you thought :)

Party time! A late-afternoon communal dance in a small Kara settlement (Korcho) set high on a fertile east bank of southern Ethiopia's lower Omo River. Adorned with finger-painted white-chalk body markings, glass-bead necklaces, and clay hair buns with ostrich feathers.
The essential life-sustaining Omo River is situated (out of sight) below the edge of a steep riverbank in the backdrop. The Nyangatom (past enemies, current allies) are established on other side of the river. The river carves a hard winding course south through the volcanic-rock floor of the Great Rift Valley for another 50-60 kilometres before pouring into Lake Turkana at the border with Kenya.
This photograph pays homage to the extraordinary analog images of the peoples of East Africa that appear in the seminal book Vanishing Africa, published in 1971 by eminent Africanist and social documentary photographer, Mirella Ricciardi.

Kara is both a city and a region in northern Togo, a country in West Africa known for its rural charm, mountainous landscapes, and as a base for cultural attractions such as the Koutammakou (Tamberma Valley) and the Evala rituals.
Кара-Даг
The Kara Dag ("Black Mount") is a volcanic rock formation which rises to a height of 577 meters between the Crimean coastal town of Koktebel and the Otuzka River valley. It has been the site of a marine biological station [ru] since the early 20th century. Some 2874 ha of coastline and 809 ha of coastal waters have been protected as the Karadag Nature Reserve since 1979. The littoral is rich in picturesque cliffs.

Kara who used to be quite active on Tumblr as Telescopical. I don't recall the fine details of our first contact but I'm sure I got in touch with her and I think it was because she'd modeled for a local newspaper. Regardless, she and I had a wonderful couple of photosessions and really enjoyed our creative collaborations. Sadly, she moved away for a few years and although she's back in this part of the country I think she's not interested in modelling anymore. But wow, what fun we had.

"KARA" means foreign country such as China, Korea or India.
"Taki" means waterfall.
I don't know why this name was given...
Original shot of Kara. Shot with beauty dish and two umbrella'd strobes on white background. Had to clean up the background a bit cuz it wasn't pure white on the right. Also warmed up Kara a bit with a guassian blur layer blended with overlay at 15. I like the way this warms the skin tones, adds contrast and softens the shadows.
My goal is to be offer a client an image like this or one with a digital background. The pure white background makes extracting the subject much easier. The hair is a bit tricky though.
