A view towards the rear of the chassis showing the driving and trailing coupled wheels (3ft 4in), big end, return crank and return crank rod. Note the massive counterweights.

Note bar frames (typical US practice and contrary to classic UK practice of plate frames) and that these are *outside* the wheels - think 'City of Truro'. Note too the bottom of the firebox and the ash and cinders on the framing; no dampers on these - primary air whether you like it or not.

I think this loco has compensated springing - hitherto I'd not discovered how this works but I think I'm getting it. Better illustrated in a pic of a K-36 class loco to be posted in due course...
