The inside of one of the pre-fabricated canteen buildings that used to stand at Warstones Junior School. Looking at the previous picture, this is the white coloured single-storey building that can be seen in the background. There were two canteen halls that were built side-by-side, joined together by a smaller building in the middle, which was the kitchen. The kitchen is behind the serving hatches in this picture. The canteen halls also doubled-up as classrooms outside of meal times.

Tessa and I competed in the dock diving event at PetFest this weekend - she was entered 3 times, and at 2 jumps per wave, she got a total of 6 jumps. At first she jumped 14'9" (click for video), 14' and 14'5" but then we had a Tessa malfunction: She started to run down the dog at her usual full speed, only to stop dead at the edge of the dock where she hesitated, then jumped. One time she refused to jump at all, despite encouragement from me, the crowd and the announcer. Timing out is not like her at all - and I don't know what happened.
But: the 14'9" jump from Saturday secured her a place in the Junior finals (this was our third competition and each time she made the Junior finals). Some people who saw her jump (or rather, not jump) on Sunday only wondered how we ended up in the finals. Sadly, she didn't come out of her funk for the finals, although at least she jumped, albeit only 9 feet or so (which is actually not bad from a standstill but not enough to win anything). She placed last in the Junior finals - 6th place, but still got this wonderful ribbon and it's orange, which is a color she wears well and proudly. Maybe that was the master plan - to take home some orange?
In retrospect, it's actually cool that even though she had a sub-par weekend, she still managed to advance...

Last years Truck Series recolour of the Matchbox 1962 Nissan Junior quickly recycled for this years MBX Japan Tourers five vehicle set. Now appearing at Tesco seemingly before anywhere else in the World! Mint and boxed.
The Robot Junior was introduced in 1954 by Otto Berning & Co. in Schwelm, Westphalia. This internationally much advertised steel-camera of the ingenious constructor Heinz Kilfitt had two remarkable features, first a modern type of film advance with double exposure lock and coupled shutter cocking, and second a multi-speed kind of rotating shutter from Gauthier, made completely of metal.
The Robot 2's special feature was the most significant for the whole camera series: a strong spring motor for film advance, made by the Black Forest clock maker Baeuerle & Söhne. That allowed to make a series of images in a few seconds. Maybe this feature plus the camera's robust stainless steel body made it one of the prefered cameras of the German army. Especially the German Luftwaffe owned special versions of it with more robust spring motor and a 75mm Xenar lens.
With the Junior, film could now be rewound into the feed cassette in the camera as in other 35 mm cameras but loses the angle finder and the rewind mechanism of the Star.

Dr. Harold Johnson and his two daughters, Rita (l) and Harelyn (r), leave Washington-Lee High School in Arlington, Virginia September 5, 1957 after being refused admittance to the school.
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that school segregation was illegal in the 1954 Brown v. Board of Education and three other cases, but school systems in the South and in some areas of the North resisted the decision
Johnson was a prominent Arlington physician and rights activist. The suit he subsequently filed became the legal basis for desegregating Arlington’s schools.
On February 2, 1959 four other African American children entered Stratford Junior High School beginning a process of legal integration of Arlington schools that would take two decades to complete.
In the late 1950s, the state of Virginia started its policy of “massive resistance” that involved closing any public school that integrated and providing state aid to all white private schools.
Arlington was stripped of its elected school board by the state when it adopted a modest policy of integration.
