Thousands of university, college and school students – joined by workers – are marching in London and Manchester against Tory cuts to education, fee rises and attacks on jobs and services.

The revolution in Tunisia and uprising in Egypt have clearly inspired the marches. Marchers have chanted, “Egypt, Egypt everywhere.”

London

Aisha, an FE student from Camden in north London said, “I’ve been on all the demonstrations, but some of my friends are here who haven’t been out on the protests before.

“I like the slogan ‘This is only the beginning’, because it’s going to be a long fight against this government.”

Theo, a school student from south east London, took part in the Day X walkouts last year. He said, “Lots of people who want to go to university won’t be able to and people will definitely be affected by the cuts to EMA [Education Maintenance Allowance]. The government is making the wrong people pay – the bankers are getting hundreds of thousands in bonuses.”

For workers, the student protests have been an inspiration.

A GMB rep joining the protest in London said, “I’m here to show solidarity with the students. I’ve got a daughter who has just gone through university and there is no way she would have been able to afford £9,000 a year fees.

“I’m also here to say that I don’t believe in these cuts. We’ve got to stick together workers and students. I think that the TUC demo on the 26 March can give people confidence to fight.”

UCU lecturer Vicky Margree works at the University of Brighton. She said, “We face 100 percent cut in arts and humanities funding which will hit universities hard. And the new fees will make university unaffordable for the majority of people.”

Kelly Rogers, a Unison organiser, said, “Unless we show solidarity with younger people we may as well give up. Students have led the way and enthused workers, showing us how to fight.”

Solidarity with the Egyptian uprising

In London the mood was electric as up to a thousand students joined the many hundreds of people already protesting in solidarity with the Egyptian people outside the embassy off Park Lane.

Chants of “Solidarity, solidarity,” “London and Cairo unite and fight” and “Hey ho Mubarak has to go” are ringing through the air.

One man on the original protest said, “I can’t believe that all these young people have come to support us. This makes us feel even stronger. I can’t wait to send the pictures of all you British people who have come to support us to people back home.”

Before reaching the embassy, the protest stopped outside the Tory HQ at Millbank – a focus of student anger and protests last year – as students chanted, “Tory scum, here we come.”

Since leaving several groups, I have been on the search to join again. I have joined and dropped groups as I come across interesting clubs and organizations. Sigh... LL, we really need at least 50... ok, I'll settle for 30? LOL!

Here are some new clubs that I have been frequenting. All have their own flavor and style. Give them all a listen!

DJ ISItheDreamaker Teskat has his own club now called Domina. I have been there a couple of times now, and it is a fun place. Of course, DJ ISI is one of my favorites but I also stopped in to listen to DJ Weyaman Howlett the other night. FUN!

Got the tp from the DJ Andy Moon crowd to a private little party at his house over on Crack Monkey Cove, home of DJxHalloween's Divaz Lounge. What started off to be just a few of us grew into a 30 person party with lag to boot. LOL! That was a very fun and chill party.

I heard DJ Renanyoy Oh was spinning at Stupid Q-pit, so off I went. Nur, Lolla, Seismo, Ideal & Olive were all there. I loved the yellow monster! So fun and delightful.

A stop at BassLine Island where they were celebrating Obama win with a flying USA flag and posters.

Club Industry was calling after the monster bass at BassLine, so noize was in the making for me. Ghoulish bloodied bodies made for a dark comment as we danced to the industrial sounds.

My angel joined me at Le Ghetto Hype. We both love this little club. It's so pretty and welcoming.

Arnaud and Frederick have put together a nice place to chill and hang with some of the best DJ's spinning. DJ Coggy Nikolaidis was spinning when we got there. Xavi & I ended our day there... whew!

My boyfriend is joining me in today's shot :)

Not my cleanest manipulation, but I am still pretty happy with it.

On May 17, six volunteers joined TLC in monitoring the Barer / Kinghorn Covenants located within Mt Work Regional Park. It was a mild cloudy spring day; comfortable hiking weather. We were interested in the wetland sites we had monitored in the winter to compare their hydrological states.

Upon entering the covenant, everyone noticed how lush the forest appeared. Mosses were observed to still be thriving on the wet mild spring weather – even still reproducing (this is typically a winter activity for moss). After the obligatory photo at the abandoned car we arrived at the marsh monitoring site.

The marsh was still with about a foot of water and had a heavy amount of skunk cabbage – however not smelling too skunky! These are underappreciated plants. I like their other name: Swamp Lantern for their beautiful yellow flowers. We collected our photopoint monitoring data and continued on. Along the trail we found a Yellow-spotted millipede, also known as the Cyanide millipede, famous for its almond scent. Torrey and the team had to confirm this, so we all took a quick sniff. The results were positive! (Note: these are not edible).

We arrived at our second photopoint monitoring location near the Barer / Kinghorn Covenants and began our species inventory. The list was long! The location is in a depression, the lowest point between two hills, which typically holds more moisture and often has a stream running through it as weather events send rain down the adjacent hills. The stream that was babbling in the winter was no longer present; instead a dry stream bed was dotted with little yellow jelly fungi. In the area we identified many tree, shrub, herb and moss species typical of riparian zones and on the grand scale; Costal Douglas Fir biogeoclimatic zone. This is a great sign for the health of this covenant!

We took a lunch break at the Kinghorn cabin and found an abundant amount of Fairyslipper orchids! Spring is always a great time to get outside because the forest floor is lush with color. Other wildflower species we found included Sea blush, Monkey flower, Blue - eyed Mary, Western buttercup, strawberry, Miner ’s lettuce, Oregon grape, Twin flower and a White shooting star!

We continued our trek around the Kinghorn Covenant, the trail was cleared of the blow-down from winters storms. We stopped for one more monitoring point, captured photos and coordinates of the site and realized it was already time to head back. On the walk back we found young coralroot and rattlesnake-plantain. Suddenly, TLC's Covenant Manager Torrey spotted a Black morel! This is really exciting because these little brainy-looking fungi friends are a pretty rare find. After a few photos to prove it’s’ existence we finished our visit feeling very positive about the abundance of diversity in this healthy forest.

Join the People’s Climate March in NYC Sunday, Sept. 21

You’re Invited—Step On Out

Spread the word and make plans to join the People’s Climate March in New York City this Sunday, Sept. 21 (use our Facebook and Twitter icons below). Organized in part by author and activist Bill McKibben—with support from more than 1,000 groups—the march is timed to get the attention of the thousands of United Nations delegates coming to New York for the annual meeting.

More than 1,000 groups are coordinating the march—environmental justice groups, faith groups, labor groups—which means there’s no one policy ask. Instead, it’s designed to serve as a loud and pointed reminder to our leaders, gathering that week at the United Nations to discuss global warming, that the next great movement of the planet’s citizens centers on our survival and their pathetic inaction.

Logistics: Marchers gather at Columbus Circle and on up Central Park West between 59th and 86th Streets. March begins at 11:30 a.m. Click here for more information about transportation, how you can volunteer, etc.: peoplesclimate.org/march/

I was arranging some old boxes when I found this tank, an "MBT Ariete" from Italian army. I had an idea regarding tanks and firecrackers for a long time so I decided to make it true. The original idea was shoot the tank with a big explosion behind, but the blast was really big, the sand was flying all around.

Hundreds of young activists joined an inspiring Youth Climate Strike in Santa Rosa, to demand action on climate change.

This North Bay strike was organized by young climate activists Lucy London and Kelley Tillman, along with their peers at the Novato High Earth Club. They gave speeches, sang together, made posters, marched on City Hall and created a beautiful mosaic to honor mother earth.

Over a million students around the world skipped school this Friday to protest government inaction on climate change, with thousands of rallies in 125 countries, making it the largest youth climate action in history.

Their peaceful demonstration in Santa Rosa was very moving: these young people are sweet, smart, articulate, dedicated and they share an amazing creative energy and love for the earth. I want to be like them when I grow up!

Our Green Change team supported their youth action by providing a sound system, a large earth globe, and shooting videos and photos of their uprising. Thanks to our crew members Sarah Acker and Marilyn Price for their invaluable support of this important cause. :)

In coming weeks, I will create a special video story featuring Lucy, Kelley and their friends for Climate Heroes, our new series on the new leaders of the green revolution.

Even though this was a youth-led event, they welcomed the help of adult allies like us. It was a pleasure to join forces with these young leaders to fight for climate action together, across generations!

July 11, 2018--East Farmingdale--Governor Andrew M. Cuomo was joined today by Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul and Suffolk County leaders at a rally in Farmingdale to fight to protect women's reproductive rights. State and local leaders called on the Senate to return to Albany to codify Roe v. Wade into New York State Law. The rally follows the federal government's decision Monday night to nominate Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. The Governor vowed to take action to defend New York's progressive values against the extreme conservative agenda of the Trump Administration, including the fight to codify the protections of Roe v. Wade into state law. New actions were also announced by the Governor on Monday to protect reproductive rights in anticipation of this Supreme Court Justice nomination. herosjourneyphysics.wordpress.com/ MDT PROOF#2: Einstein (1912 Man. on Rel.) and Minkowski wrote x4=ict. Ergo dx4/dt=ic--the foundational equation of all time and motion which is on all the shirts and swimsuits. Every photon that hits my Nikon D800e's sensor does it by surfing the fourth expanding dimension, which is moving at c relative to the three spatial dimensions, or dx4/dt=ic!
