This wonderful volcanic crater lake was first brought to my attention by a lovely lady who worked at a guesthouse that I stayed at March 2017. She had seen a photograph taken by Icelandic local photographer Sigurdur William Brynjarsson that featured a blazing display of the aurora borealis reflected in the water of the crater. It certainly was quite colourful.

Sadly I did not have time to visit it last year but I did on Wednesday afternoon as I was driving my clients back to the airport town of Keflavik so we stopped off for an hour to shoot it.
According to Wikipedia, it is one of several crater lakes in the area, known as Iceland's Western Volcanic Zone. It was created as the land moved over a localised hotspot, but it is the one that has the most visually recognisable caldera still intact. The caldera, like the other volcanic rock in the area, is composed of a red (rather than black) volcanic rock. The caldera itself is approximately 55 m (180 ft) deep, 170 m (560 ft) wide, and 270 m (890 ft) across. Kerid’s caldera is one of the three most recognisable volcanic craters because at approximately 3,000 years old, it is only half the age of most of the surrounding volcanic features. The other two are Seyðishólar and Kerhóll.
While most of the crater is steep-walled with little vegetation, one wall is sloped more gently and blanketed with a deep moss, and can be descended fairly easily. The lake itself is fairly shallow (7–14 metres, depending on rainfall and other factors), but due to minerals from the soil, is an opaque and strikingly vivid aquamarine.
There is a charge to walk around it during the daytime (approx £3.00) but it's free once the car park closes and you can park outside of the gates and off the road so there's no problem in parking.

Crowds flood Dongdaemun, Seoul’s (and Korea’s) largest market, made up of open-air and indoor sections, spreading along Cheonggyecheon stream, where one can find seemingly EVERYTHING. The market is named after the ornamental gate at its eastern entrance, which just means great (dae) east (dong) gate (mun).
On a misty morning, a sandstone arch leads inside a large open bowl along the Oregon Coast. This is one of many new photos released on my website recently under the New Work gallery.

The Karnak temple complex, universally known only as Karnak, describes a vast conglomeration of ruined temples, chapels, pylons and other buildings. It is located near Luxor in Egypt. This was ancient Egyptian Ipet-isut ("The Most Selected of Places"), the main place of worship of the Theban Triad with Amun as its head, in the monumental city of Thebes. The complex retrieves its current name from the nearby and partly surrounding modern village of el-Karnak, some 2.5km north of Luxor.
This photo is a typical example of Egypt way of modeling for money - Those of you that think that such a timeless photo opportunity will occur on each step in a place like a Valley of Kings or Luxor in Egypt ( I thought so) might be surprised as Egypt is a land of "baksheesh" and money is asked for everything. When I took photos of bakery in Oman or Yemen I left the shop with piece of free warm bread in my hand, when I tried to do same in Luxor, I was very shortly asked for "baksheesh" in very ordinary old bakery in the city. When I surprisingly just said "shokran" - thank you, I was not allowed to take more photos. The same story goes with this shot and many more. On a second thought, I should have asked for "baksheesh" too when those Egyptian guys have been taking photos with me to show off that they have new blond, European girlfriend.
