One Saturday night in 1948, Joe Relo spiffed himself up and drove himself and his friends, Joe Mediate and Bill Marr, to New Castle for a night on the town. They travelled there from Struthers, just across the Ohio border, instead of going to Youngstown, which would have been their nearest city, so they either wanted a change of scene or had a special reason to go to Pennsylvania. Whatever the case, they passed the night in the bars downtown, and didn’t head for home until nearly 1 in the morning.
As soon as they pulled out from where they’d been parked, they found themselves stuck behind a cautious motorist who needlessly stopped at the red light at Moravia street and Long avenue. Who needs to stop at a red light when there’s no other traffic about? Joe leaned hard on his horn, again and again and again -- for Chrissakes, he had to drive all the way back to Ohio! That's a whole other state! Why couldn’t this guy just move? Bill and the other Joe tumbled out of the car to go talk to the guy, just to explain to him that they had a long drive ahead of them and he should just show a little consideration and either go through the red light or pull over so they could go through the red light, but the guy took it the wrong way and thought they were trying to start trouble.
Before long, things got a little out of hand there at the junction and, wouldn’t you know it, that’s when the cops showed up.
The boys spent the rest of the weekend in the cells. On Monday, Bill Marr and Joe Mediate were fined $10 and $5 respectively (Bill got a bigger fine because the cops thought he'd been resisting arrest when he'd only been trying to explain to them the situation as he saw it), and Joe Relo had to post bond and return to New Castle the following week. On 20 March, he received the standard New Castle penalty for drunk driving: 30 days in the Lawrence county jail and a fine of $100 and costs, out in three days if the fine and costs were paid.
Everything would have been just fine if only that guy had run the red light.

This post comes to you all the way from NYC, New York, with our artist being none other than Joe Jusko. What makes this artist so special is that it’s a safe assumption to say that the majority of people alive today have seen his artwork! His work includes paintings and illustrations for characters such as Hawk Man, The Green Lantern, Conan the Barbarian, The Punisher, Lara Croft, and Captain America just to name a few. Producing his first cover at the age of 17 for Heavy Metal Magazine in 1977, Joe Jusko is a comic book artist who has worked for all the major comic book companies including Marvel, DC, Crusade, Innovation, Harris, Wildstorm, Top Cow, and Byron Preiss. Graduating that year as well from the New York High School of Art & Design (the only high school in the country that offers a curriculum geared towards commercial art) he received the DC Comics Award of Excellence in Cartooning. In 2007 Joe Jusko was inducted into the prestigious Society of Illustrators and received the Certificate of Merit from them for his more recent work in ‘Tomb Raider’ (based off the popular PlayStation videogame). ABHAY SINGH & FRIENDS
Abhay Singh & Friends was formed in Autumn 2011 when, while attending grad school to study theology after a bad breakup, Abhay Singh rounded up musicians to perform songs that allegorically related the Bible to his experiences of heartbreak and finding new love. The band performs Roots Rock and Doo-Wop music influenced by Bruce Springsteen, Roy Orbison, and Leonard Cohen. Inspired by the song structures and emotional candidness of contemporary pop music and club music, over the holidays Abhay and his musician friends recorded an 8-song album of folk, klezmer, and doo-wop music, prominently featuring harmonium, an instrument popular in the music of the Indian subcontinent.

Hailing from Pennington, New Jersey, James Panther has been unwaveringly dedicated to making music since 11 years old when he joined the American Boychoir in 1996. Fast forward to now-- Panther is a piano player, pop/rock/soul singer, songwriter, and producer with a dynamic, haunting and powerful voice. His songs and performances are both intimate and high energy: uncompromisingly honest accounts of personal experience and hooky self-empowerment anthems with driving beats and unforgettable pop melodies.
After years of classical/choral training and various leading roles in musical theatre productions, Panther went to study songwriting at Boston's Berklee College of Music, and made 2 albums under the name Jamie Treadwell, playing extensively in Boston and Cambridge. Deeply driven to create a unique sound and find his authentic voice, Panther left Berklee to develop artistically in radical queer artistic communities in New York, San Francisco, and Portland, OR. In addition to performing in major cities, Panther spent months at a time creatively developing in rural radical queer sanctuaries and gatherings in the pacific northwest and Tennessee, as well as in spiritual ceremonies of Native American tradition. Panther's debut EP weaves together his urban sensibility and his extensive experience as a rurally dwelling gypsy traveller and lover of nature and progressive community.
He proudly and passionately stands for truth, self-respect, self-empowerment, the health and wellness of queer communities, and creating a safer world for young queer kids to grow up.
Joe McCarthy is a singer-songwriter of brooklyn bands Senators, Abhay Singh & Friends, Doubting Thomas Cruise Control, and Youth and the Drug Explosion. The second day we went through the tunnels of the Via Verde to the next valley, close to El Pinell de Brai station. Following the Canaletes creek, we found a cave with a lot of sheep and a few goats. One sheep was standing alone, outside of the fence. We climbed on the rocks to continue following the creek in a steep canyon, with a waterfall. Up the hill, in the direction of El Pinell de Brai village, we visited our friends David and Helena, organic vegetable farmers The vegetables were looking great, although it was the middle of the winter. We bought some fresh vegetables from them and went back home to Riberola, for an afternoon walk over Helen's fields. In the evening we cooked for Joe and Helen, which was becoming a tradition.

I met Joe while working on Assignment 2 in Lighting Essential's Project 52. The assigment involved meeting and photographing a stranger.
I went just down the block from my home to the local bar, Vinnie T's. There, I met Joe. Joe was enjoying a beer after a long, hard day of work. Can't say I blame him--I'm drinking one as I type this. Some things are universal...like hard days and brief relaxation.
