A probably 19th century (but possibly 18th century) house dating from the Dutch colonial period in Surabaya. The style reflects a merge between Dutch gable houses and local domestic architecture, and is adapted to the tropical climate. It is located in the charming and walkable "heritage kampung".
Probably, no Dutch person ever lived in this house. The house is located in a traditional, historical Javanese neighbourhood of the colonial town, since the colonial city was segregated into different neighbourhoods home to different ethnicities en religions (f.e.: the Dutch neighbourhood, Chinatown, the Malay-Arab Islamic neighbourhood, the Javanese neighbourhood).
What I personally love about these houses that they resemble very much some town houses in Willemstad, Curaçao (another former Dutch colonial town and UNESCO world heritage site), and the similar "cas di cunucu" of neighbouring Aruba (also a former Dutch colony), where I have my roots.
Surabaya was found during the mighty Hindu-Buddhist Majapahit Empire (13th to 16th century), when it served as a port nearby its fabulous capital. During this time, it received Muslim Sufi missionaries, such as Ampel, who preached here and thus found an Islamic base in Java from where the religion was further spread. The historic Ampel neighbourhood still has one of the oldest mosques of Indonesia. The town came into the hands of the Dutch East India Company (VOC) in the early 18th century, who further developped the town and introduced fascinating Dutch colonial architecture, but at the expense of the population and according to seggregation. Surabaya was the second most important port due to the export of sugar and tobacco from the interior. It was from here that, after the Japanese occupation in WWII, that the Indonesians and Sukarno declared independence from The Netherlands in 1945.
Candi Prambanan or Candi Rara Jonggrang is a 9th-century Hindu temple compound in Central Java, Indonesia, dedicated to the Trimurti, the expression of God as the Creator (Brahma), the Sustainer (Vishnu) and the Destroyer (Shiva). The temple compound is located approximately 18 kilometres (11 mi) east of the city of Yogyakarta on the boundary between Central Java and Yogyakarta provinces.[
The temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the largest Hindu temple in Indonesia, and is one of the largest Hindu temples in Southeast Asia. It is characterized by its tall and pointed architecture, typical of Hindu temple architecture, and by the towering 47-metre-high (154 ft) central building inside a large complex of individual temples.[ One of the most majestic temples in Southeast Asia, Prambanan attracts many visitors from across the world

The Ijen volcano complex is a group of stratovolcanoes, in East Java, Indonesia. It is inside a larger caldera Ijen, which is about 20 kilometers wide. The Gunung Merapi stratovolcano (not to be confused with Central Java's Gunung Merapi) is the highest point of that complex.
West of Gunung Merapi is the Ijen volcano, which has a one-kilometer-wide turquoise-colored acid crater lake. The lake is the site of a labor-intensive sulfur mining operation, in which sulfur-laden baskets are carried by hand from the crater floor. Many other post-caldera cones and craters are located within the caldera or along its rim. The largest concentration of post-caldera cones forms an E-W-trending zone across the southern side of the caldera. The active crater at Kawah Ijen has an equivalent radius of 361 meters, a surface of 41 × 106 square meters. It is 200 meters deep and has a volume of 36 × 106 cubic meters

Borobudur Temple is a huge Buddhist Temple located 40 km north west of Yogyakarta, Central Java, Indonesia. The temple was built during the golden age of Syailendra Dynasty, presumably between 750 and 825. Dark-grey volcanic stone was used for the construction of the monument, which is listed as UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The temple is decorated with 2,672 relief panels and 504 Buddha statues.

Java, my first partner's dog I just learned this past Saturday was put to sleep. She was 12 years old.
I've never met a dog in my entire life that was as unique and special as she was. Java was part Grey Wolf and German Shepherd. She was so incredibly smart and just aware of her entire surroundings. If she had met you just once, she would have remembered who you were and be so excited to see you. When you stared into her marbley gold eyes....it was like she was staring into your soul.... I will always treasure the time we shared together...

A warung (old spelling: waroeng or warong) is a type of small family-owned business — a small retail, eatery or café — in Indonesia. A warung is an essential part of daily life in Indonesia. In the passage of time, the term warung has slightly shifted — especially among foreign visitors, expatriates, and people abroad — to refer more specifically to a modest Indonesian eatery or a place that sells Indonesian retail things (mostly groceries or foodstuff). But for the majority of Indonesians, the meaning is still a small, neighborhood convenience shop, often a front room in a family's home.
There are establishments on the touristy island of Bali and elsewhere that attach the term warung in their business to indicate their Indonesian nature. Traditionally, warung is indeed a family-owned business, run by the family members, mostly by women.
Traditional warungs are made from wooden, bamboo or thatched materials. More permanent warungs are made from bricks and concrete, some family-owned businesses are attached to their homes. Some smaller portable warungs are made from tin, zinc or some modern version might use fiberglass mold. Warung tenda is a portable tent warung, covered with canvas, fabric, tarp or plastic sheet tent for roofing.
