#3 Prize - Jawbone Jambox

JAMBOX Jawbone Display at Target February 28, 2014

Today was a simple day. Woke up two hours before I was meant to cause I managed to set my clock a couple hours ahead of planned. So when I woke I watched a Alyssa Milano in My Girlfriend's Boyfriend. I honestly decided to watch it cause I think she is extremely hot. Whoops. It wasn't so bad except she was clothed and the acting wasn't great which I assume because how it was written. I lounged... Got ready for work early and in turn headed to Lexington early to exchange the space bags I got and to buy my mummy some. I think I am going to return the Jambox this week and cut my loses by getting my money back. Any way .... I am home, I'm tired, and I think I am almost completely ready to move. If it wasn't for my mom I'd be gone... So gone ! Sleepy head. :) I am ready for bed.

eats Pill+ Review: Small Bluetooth Speaker, Big Room-Filling Sound

The Beats Pill has grown up. The popular little Bluetooth speaker has been totally redesigned, from top to bottom, and in the second generation—now with a plus sign—it’s easier to use, louder and just a bit bigger than before.

But while the Beats Pill+ can get loud enough to fill up any single room in your home, it manages to deliver clear, layered sound whether it’s cranked up or down low in volume. To hear any distortion in the music you’re playing, you really have to blare this speaker at max volume.

Behind the new Pill’s rounded grills are two tweeters, positioned at outward angles on either end, providing for a wider sound stage than its predecessor. Two woofers in the center add a noticeable but not overpowering amount of bass that was missing from the original Pill—not to mention most rival Bluetooth speakers. Each tweeter and woofer is powered by its own amp, contributing to the clarity.

The Bluetooth performance is great. For Bluetooth, that is. Connecting Pill+ often took a couple tries, but once I was on, I could play music on it from up to 100 or so feet away before running into connection issues. People in environments with fewer wireless signals may get even farther range.

You can pair two Beats Pill+ speakers to spread out your left and right channels, or to bring the same song to two different rooms. Emily Prapuolenis / The Wall Street Journal

Just like the original Pill, you can pair two together for separate left and right stereo channels. But the Pill+ now lets you also have both paired speakers play the same exact tracks, so you can put them in different rooms for a super-simple multi-room setup.

You do all this in the Pill+ app for iOS and Android. You can also use the app to set up DJ mode, which lets you and a friend take turns playing songs through the speaker. Since the Pill+ is a Bluetooth speaker, it’ll play songs from any music source accessed by your phone—downloaded files and streamed tracks, whether from Spotify, Apple Music, Google Music, Tidal, TuneIn, Pandora or anything else.

While the Pill+ is larger than the first-gen Pill, it’s still small and portable enough to slip into a medium-sized purse or any backpack. At 1.5 lbs, though, you’ll feel it. Fortunately, that heft means a solid 12 hours of battery life. When it’s time to charge, which takes up to three hours, the Pill+ has Apple’s Lightning port, like the latest iPhones and iPads. That means you carry around fewer cables if you’re in the Apple Camp (and one more if you’re an Android user). A USB port on its back lets you charge other devices, too.

At $229, the Pill+ isn’t cheap, but I think it’s worth the money. For $100 less, you could go with the smaller, older Jawbone Mini Jambox, but you sacrifice sound quality. If audio quality is paramount to you, KEF’s Muo portable offers richer sound for $100 more. I like to think of the Pill+ as the happy medium here: room-filling sound but still, as these speaker boxes go, some bang for your buck.
