While on the road, Spike and I tried to find the cheapest places to stay. No big, plush, expensive hotel suites for us! No way. We wanted the real cultural experience, so we always looked for the hole-in-the-walls. Whenever we saw a wall (or anything else, really) with holes in it, we'd hunker down for some shut-eye!

One of my prized possessions! I was lucky enough to stumble across this in a newsagents when it had just been launched. The cover says everything one would need to know, and it felt like it was perfect for my tastes. I bought it right the way through to issue No. 30, by which time it had been increased to a 'proper' A4 size. It was becoming increasingly difficult to find by that time, and I think issue No. 31 was the last they managed (and I still need to find!). It was a genuinely entertaining read.

Tin Lizzy Jalopy or Rust on Wheels Take 2 great project, built for parades and events this is a very fun old car, actually runs well, with a lot of noise though. Shot in North Carolina

There's quite a variety on display at the Pavilions Car Show in Scottsdale, Arizona. In Boston, this would be the ultimate "dinga."

Rolled over on two separate occasions, and it was still driveable...

Archie's car?

Automobiles are one of Archie's hobbies, and he is passionate about his car. For decades, he was shown driving a 1916 Ford Model T jalopy called "Betsy". In Archie double digest #192, it is said to be a Model A. In a story where Archie tried to have his jalopy insured, he described it as being a "Ford, Chevy, Plymouth, Pierce-Arrow, Packard, DeSoto, Hudson ..." explaining that his jalopy was "a collection of replacement parts from several junkyards", some of which dated back to 1926.

Archie's jalopy was destroyed permanently in issue #238 of Life With Archie.

------------------------

Jalopy may describe Archie's car but it is actually a misnomer this one.

Dictionary.com defines "Jalopy" as: an old, decrepit, or unpretentious automobile.

"a battered old automobile," 1924 (early variants include jaloupy, jaloppi, gillopy), of unknown origin; perhaps from Jalapa, Mexico, where many U.S. used cars were sent (see jalapeño ).

I love jalapenos.
