A distant jaeger, presumably Parasitic but in the field recalled Long-tailed like with apparently short bill (with extensive dusky tip), golen nape and white shafts restricted to 2 or 3 primaries. Too distant to be sure.

Species shot. On this recent pelagic trip there were quite a few Pomarine Jaegers throughout - one followed us right into the Harbour! Fortunately two Arctic Jaegers showed at the end of the trip near Sydney Heads. Funnily enough on my previous pelagic trip an Arctic Jaeger flew over the boat as we were heading out past the Heads in much the same spot.

Scientific name: Stercorarius parasiticus

Sex: Unknown

Location: Sydney Pelagic, Australia.

Series: Shingeki no Kyojin

One of the original seven jaegers on the water, in the process of circling the boat. Taken 100+ miles south of Nantucket, MA.

The "Pom" is the largest of the three jaeger species. As a group their feeding style is often described as "kleptoparasitic," meaning that they chase and steal food from other birds such as gulls and terns ("jaeger" is the German word for "hunter"). We saw several of these birds today, on the water and in flight, and often very close.

I finally got around to taking a picture of the tasty Jaegerschnitzel I have made a few times in the past year. Always delicious and always a hit with everyone at the table. Love the mushroom sauce recipe at www.german-recipes-and-more.com/jaeger-schnitzel-recipe.html

In Stokes it is stated that the long streamers of the Long-tailed Jaeger are often broken off by August. Photo taken in late September.
