Hi all... While some of my flickr contacts shiver and freeze over in those cold climes, us people down under are having a lovely spring time...
I tried to capture some of the beauty of the Jacaranda trees in full bloom... in full sunlight... oh well...
They are such superb trees when there canopies are full of blossoms and the leaves have not yet sprung forth...
This shot was down on the Nepean River, in Sydney, Australia...
I hope this brings some warmth to you...
(I need to try this again, perhaps with some early morning light.... perhaps this weekend..)

Pretoria in South Africa is popularly known as The Jacaranda City due to the enormous number of Jacaranda trees planted as street trees and in parks and gardens. In flowering time the city appears blue/purple in colour when seen from the nearby hills because of all the Jacaranda trees. The time of year the Jacarandas bloom in Pretoria, coincide with the year-end exams at the University of Pretoria and legend has it that if a flower from the Jacaranda tree drops on your head, you will pass all your exams. Other towns and cities in South Africa have Jacaranda trees, but none produce such a show as that of Pretoria.

I found a Jacaranda tree that had a low enough branch for my shortness to capture a close look!...;-)
University students know it's exam time here in Brisbane because the end of the academic year is in November and that's when the jacaranda trees are in full bloom, making the city pop in an explosion of purple, lilac and lavender. The most impressive examples of these amazing trees can be found in New Farm Park or at the University of Queensland, St Lucia campus. Many locals flock to see them during the months of October and November with their cameras at the ready. It's best to get in early before the storm season arrives and the flowers start to dwindle away.

In June the Jacaranda tree will be full of lavender blue flowers in clusters. This huge tree is in my front yard and is very colorful.

The jacaranda blossom in Nairobi looks just as good after it has fallen -- and it has a lovely aromatic scent!
