These little thingies, each several centimeters across and very hard and wooden, contain the seeds of the gorgeous Jacaranda trees. Found in southern Sardinia, on the streets of Cagliari, and put on my scanner
A canopy of ultraviolet-blue jacarandas gives charm and color to San Marino and Pasadena. One is drawn to the vibrant hues of these postcard perfect trees lining the streets of Southern California. Now is the season.
The trees bloom for two months twice a year, once around April to May and again around November to December.
It's just a pleasant thing to look at. They say it's like a Matisse painting; it's like the impressionistic brush strokes of the French master.
But those who have lived among the jacarandas know such beauty can be messy. The trees infamously shed their flowers down into manicured gardens and onto sidewalks, frustrating property owners and gardeners.
The locals have mixed feelings. "It's a great tree, but it belongs to a neighbor's yard."
This was by where I parked for my daily walk. I'll post a few other things we saw this morning. Someone needs to tell me how to label these drop down photos please.

Downtown San Diego is full of Jacaranda trees that are bare much of the year, but look great for the few weeks of the year they are in bloom.

Hi all... While some of my flickr contacts shiver and freeze over in those cold climes, us people down under are having a lovely spring time...
I tried to capture some of the beauty of the Jacaranda trees in full bloom... in full sunlight... oh well...
They are such superb trees when there canopies are full of blossoms and the leaves have not yet sprung forth...
This shot was down on the Nepean River, in Sydney, Australia...
I hope this brings some warmth to you...
(I need to try this again, perhaps with some early morning light.... perhaps this weekend..)

Pretoria in South Africa is popularly known as The Jacaranda City due to the enormous number of Jacaranda trees planted as street trees and in parks and gardens. In flowering time the city appears blue/purple in colour when seen from the nearby hills because of all the Jacaranda trees. The time of year the Jacarandas bloom in Pretoria, coincide with the year-end exams at the University of Pretoria and legend has it that if a flower from the Jacaranda tree drops on your head, you will pass all your exams. Other towns and cities in South Africa have Jacaranda trees, but none produce such a show as that of Pretoria.
