Jacaranda mimosifolia is a tree native to Bolivia and Argentina in South America that is grown as a garden and street tree because of its colourful blue flowers. In South Africa it is conspicuous in many towns and cities but is best known from Pretoria where there are many avenues of Jacaranda trees. Here in SA , they flower during October - just magic!

Jacaranda is a genus of 49 species of flowering plants in the family Bignoniaceae, native to tropical and subtropical regions of Central America, South America, Cuba, Hispaniola and the Bahamas.[1] It has been planted widely in Asia, especially in Nepal. It has been introduced to most tropical and subtropical regions. The genus name is also used as the common name.
Tamborine is about 100km south of Brisbane and at a higher altitude, so it is cooler there, and Jacaranda still flowers there, and it has more leaves. In Brisbane, without a good rain, Jacarandas are quite baldy now - flowers are felt, but leaves are slow to appear.
