Unknown artist, unnamed piece - blame the photographer: I just didn't get the caption or take enough notes - South Australian Art Gallery (in 2013).

I absolutely love the mood of this piece. Anything I say will detract: it has to stand for itself.

This imposing Manor House of my today photos, is the heart, and found in the heart, of a wonderland! This wonderland is composed by a vast happy woodland and prairies , of some 220 hectares, with some beautiful natural water features here and there in forms of picturesque little lakes and streams, adding softness, brilliance, color, water life, and variety to this exceptional landscape; where many famous giant trees thrive for centuries…

Somewhere in the middle of all this Nature Beauty, the Château itself reigns, the Castle, this imposing Manor House of the early 19th century , having a lovely, small French style garden in front of it. All of this estate belongs to the municipality of La Hulpe, in the Walloon Brabant of Belgium, where I live. And, of course, it is called Château De la Hulpe! And which I have the big chance to visit it quite often, since it is about 15’ driving from my home. The entrance is free to the public. I call it my Open Cathedral!! Because this wonderland ushers me into unbelievably deep mystical and uplifting emotions and sensations, the moment I step in !!

Mount Kailash itself is known in the Tibetan language as Gang Ti-se and informally as Gang Rinpoche ("Precious Snow Mountain"), to the Bon as Yungdrung Gutsek ("Nine stacked Svastikas"). Though only 6714 m high, it stands quite alone like a great white sentinel guarding the main routes into Tibet from India and Nepal in the south and west.

Traditionally a pilgrim undertakes the 52-km trekking cirquit or circumambulation (khorlam) around Mount Kailash commencing at Darchen (4575 m) and crossing the 5630 m Dolma La pass on the second day of the three-day walk. This is followed by a trek of the same duration around the beautiful turquiose Lake Manasarovar known in the Tibetan language as Mapham Yutso མ་ཕམ་གཡུ་མཚོ།

.. three little puppies (the picture speaks for itself.).

I experimented with sprinkling gold glitter flecks onto my bubble today. I found the video of the bubbles deflating more interesting than the way the bubble itself. I posted the video to my Instagram account if you are interested, @auntneecey.

The fortress itself is not particularly impressive, most of it is ruins, although there are preserved walls. But the views from there are really unique. It's very beautiful. On the one hand you can see the bay with ships, on the other the beaches and the length of the coastline. Climbing by cable car. There are cafes and restaurants.

Seamouth lodge, or gatehouse, still stands, although Dunraven Castle itself has long vanished.

Paper.

I only looked at the theme for Macro Mondays this morning not really intending to do anything. But the theme is Pastel and that lends itself to all sorts of ideas.

Flowers first came to mind… and I love photographing those as you probably have realised. But then I guessed there’d be a lot of lovely ones in the group today so I tried to think of something different.

I narrowly saved you from a close-up of a peach flannel :)

This is a shot of three pieces of cream laid paper folded back on themselves. I’ve never done any of this type but I have liked a lot I have seen on Flickr. I love the gentle tone poems you get - all shape and soft colour gradients… bliss.

Anyway this is my first attempt at the genre. Half the work was done in the setup - sunlight, two lamps and a torch all played their part. But, as encouraged by the theme description, a considerable part of the performance was done in the processing, tweaking all sorts to get a soft-coloured high-key result without blowing the highlights. I used curves to get it looking right.

The whole image is cropped to less than three inches (the whole teardrop shape if you could see it was about that), so we are within the guidelines.

I enjoyed this more than I expected. It was fun. So I might try it again :)

Thank you for taking the time to look. I hope you enjoy the tone poem. Happy Macro Mondays!

A BNSF steel train wraps itself around downtown Tacoma, WA sometime about eleven years ago. Kind of digging that consist of pre-swoosh power.

Note the old Union Station with arches to the right. I always liked visiting Tacoma for a day. Good trains, weather, seafood, scenery...

I had to post this today as Cape Town prepares itself for what has been predicted as the worst storm in 30 years!!

Hopefully this link will keep working.

This farm building has lost a large part of itself, maybe to a storm or some other trauma. If you live long enough, the words "torn asunder" gain personal meaning as the loss of family, relatives and friends means a large part of your life is no longer.

Somewhat of a unique view presented itself when both trainsets for ATK 314 (from KC) and late running ATK 301 (from CHI) needed to be spun before returning to the depot for later departures. Generally, Amtrak consists leave the St. Louis downtown station and run east over to the Poplar Street wye to spin shortly after all passengers have detrained. 301 was running nearly 2 hours late and 314 was on time. With nothing else around, the TRRA Merchants Dispatcher was guiding them both and set up this meet above 6th Street. ATK 314's consist is in the foreground and holding for the signal at Gratiot on the UP Lesperance connection while 301's consist shoves by on the TRRA High Line.

This put itself in our lawn , there is quite a lot now and we do not mow the lawn until it finishes flowering. I can see it from the window as I write, it is glowing in the twilight.

I captured this scene from an overpass near Bologna Centrale station, across from the signal house with its steel framework spanning the tracks. In the center of the structure a large clock was mounted, clearly visible above the converging rails and electrical lines.

The design of the signal house itself stood out to me, its elevated form and intricate framework contrasting with the dense infrastructure of tracks, wiring, and surrounding urban buildings.

Fès prides itself of having the most-populated quarter without any access by car in the world. It's the old medina with 250,000 people living in a maze of small pathways served by donkeys as the only way to transport material.

Stitched from 4 shots.

Gloriosa superba, the name itself describes it well. It is native to the Indian and African subcontinents, but has also been introduced to the Americas.

It's Sanskrit name is Agnishikha, meaning flame tipped, and one of the common English name is also flame lily.

As such, it seemed to be an appropriate photo to post on the occasion of Diwali, the festival of lights.

Mary, Queen of the World Cathedral

1085 De la Cathedrale Street, Montreal

The Cathedral is the third largest church in Quebec and is Catholic denomination. It was built to replace the former St. Jacques Cathedral which had burned in 1852. Work began in 1875 it was completed in 1894 and consecrated as St. James Cathedral being the patron of the parish that it served.

However in 1955 at the request of Cardinal Paul-Emile Leger it was rededicated by Pope Benedict XV to Mary, Queen of the world. There have been a number of restoration works. In 2003 the enclosed porch and esplanade were restored. Another restoration in 2005 was the work done to Bishop Ignace Bourget’s statue on the outside of the building.

The Bishop’s Mortuary was completed in 1935, this was dedicated to Bishop Bourget where lays his tomb. The walls and floors are made from Italian marble.

The Chapel of the Assumption has a beautiful wood carved altar with gold leaf decoration. There is a wonderful painting of Our Lady painted in the 17th cent by a Spanish monk (unknown). The altar itself was discovered by Rololphe Messmer, an Austrian architect in France. He donated to the cathedral in 1994.

The Ciborium which covers the altar and is located under the dome was created in Rome in 1900 by Joseph-Arthur Vincent and is a reproduction of the famous one in St. Peter’s in Rome.

The Statues which atop the roof of the Cathedral represent the thirteen parishes of Montreal and again imitate those on St. Peter’s in Rome.

There are many treasures to see whilst there, there are many paintings, beautiful stained glass window and panels. The Great Organ was built by Casavant Freres and installed in 1893. The company also did the maintenance work in the 1950’s.

A truly wonderful Cathedral to visit.

The Enchanted City is a Spanish natural area of calcareous or limestone rock formations formed over thousands of years. It is located near Valdecabras, in the municipality of Cuenca (Spain), in a wide area of pine forests in the southern part of the Cuenca mountains and at an altitude of 1,500 meters.

It was declared a Natural Site of National Interest on June 11, 1929. The action of water, wind and ice has made this karstic phenomenon possible. The heterogeneity of the rocks in terms of their morphology, chemical composition and degree of hardness is what has allowed their uneven wear by atmospheric elements, resulting in a surprising sample of picturesque art from nature itself. To the whimsical and spectacular existing formations we must add lapiaces, torques and sinkholes.

It shares these characteristics especially with "Los Callejones", a place located in the municipality of Las Majadas. Both places are part of the Serranía de Cuenca Natural Park, created by the Law of the Autonomous Community of Castilla-La Mancha 5/2007.

On our only full day in Singapore we visited Gardens By The Bay for the second time. It really is a remarkable place and perhaps this dome is the piece de resistance; an artificial mountain created inside a glass dome that resembles the conditions you would find in a cloud forest.

The Cloud Forest is higher but slightly smaller of the two domes at 0.8 hectares (2.0 acres). It replicates the cool moist conditions found in tropical mountain regions between 1,000 metres (3,300 ft) and 3,000 metres (9,800 ft) above sea level, found in South-East Asia, Central- and South America. It features a 42-metre (138 ft) "Cloud Mountain", accessible by an elevator, and visitors are able to descend the mountain via a circular path where a 35-metre (115 ft) waterfall provides visitors with refreshing cool air.

The "Cloud Mountain" itself is an intricate structure completely clad in epiphytes such as orchids, ferns, peacock ferns, spike- and clubmosses, bromeliads and anthuriums. The design by Grant Associates was inspired by the Maiden Hair Fungus and consists of a number of levels, each with a different theme, including The Lost World, The Cavern, The Waterfall View, The Crystal Mountain, The Cloud Forest Gallery, The Cloud Forest Theatre and The Secret Garden.

Girona is a Spanish city and municipality, capital of the province of the same name and the region of Girona, in the autonomous community of Catalonia. It is crossed by the Ter, Güell, Galligans, and Oñar rivers, at an altitude of 75 m above sea level. The municipality, the center of the Girona urban area and the Girona Urban System, has 107,032 inhabitants (INE 2024).

Its historic center is bordered by the Paseo de la Muralla, the patrol path of the ancient Carolingian (9th century) and late medieval (14th and 15th centuries) walls. Its monuments include El Call, the former Jewish quarter, one of the best preserved in Spain, as well as the colorful Casas del Oñar (Houses of the Oñar), on the banks of the river and very close to the Cathedral of Santa María, which has the widest Gothic nave in the world.

It is located inland in the Catalan province of Girona, of which it is the capital, in the extreme northeast of the Iberian Peninsula. It belongs to the Girona region and to the Girona urban system, according to the General Territorial Plan of Catalonia.

The municipality's relief is characterized by a plain where four rivers converge: the Ter, the Oñar, the Güell, and the Galligans. However, in the areas furthest from the river plain, especially to the east, the relief is more mountainous, with peaks such as the Montaña de los Ángeles, part of the Gavarras mountain range, already in the Pre-coastal range. The altitude ranges from 395 m above sea level at the Sant Miquel peak to 50 m on the banks of the Ter River. The city itself rises 69 m above sea level.

Celebrating the Pchum Ben Festival in Cambodia this week. Pchum Ben itself is a fusion of two Khmer words: 'Pchum' - which means 'to gather together' and 'Ben' - which represents a 'ball of food'.

Pchum Ben officially lasts for 15 days - and is an annual holiday in Cambodia. A time to pay respect to ancestors - going back as far as seven generations. Similar to Memorial Day in the USA or Qing Ming in China. Most people get one or two weeks off and schools (and small shops) are closed.

People pack their bags and return to their hometowns, where they visit with relatives and pray at local pagodas. One of the busiest religious holidays of the year.

In the photo you're looking at, fresh green and pink lotus blossoms, whose petals have been neatly arranged and folded for the festival, are arranged in a large banana leaf - and available for sale. And in the upper right corner, those tiny bits of color are strings of small ornamental flags that were hung up as decorations.

If you're curious about the petal folding, here's a short Youtube video that explains it www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4L41nv9zeM

Mono Lake is a majestic body of water covering about 168 square kilometers. It is an ancient lake, over 1 million years old -- one of the oldest lakes in North America. It has no outlet.

The spectacular "tufa towers," calcium-carbonate spires and knobs formed by interaction of freshwater springs and alkaline lake water. It also protects the lake surface itself as well as the wetlands and other sensitive habitat for the 1 – 2 million birds that feed and rest at Mono Lake each year.

CSX B157 stretches itself across the P&LE’s Beaver Bridge as they lug Coke loads out of Steel City. Designed by Albert Lucius, then built 1908, this bridge stands a tall reminder of the Pittsburgh & Lake Erie’s legacy.

Paulownia tomentosa, common names princess tree, empress tree, or foxglove-tree, is a deciduous hardwood tree in the family Paulowniaceae, native to central and western China. It is an extremely fast-growing tree with seeds that disperse readily, and is a persistent exotic invasive species in North America, where it has undergone naturalisation in large areas of the Eastern US. P. tomentosa has also been introduced to Western and Central Europe, and is establishing itself as a naturalised species there as well.

In Japan, where the tree's name of Princess Tree originates, its name stems from the practice of planting seeds of the tree when a couple has a daughter; it is said that by the time the daughter is in her older teens or at the peak of adulthood when she is ready to marry, the tree by this time has also grown to maturity, which is then felled and made into a tansu dresser as a wedding gift.

His heart is tearing itself in two. She comforts him as best as she can with tenderness and care. The love from a woman can calm his pain. She can feel his muscular frame against her soft body. His strength she knows only too well. Her touch so softly reassuring, her voice settles his fear that swells. Her presence is what he needs now, her love and tenderness. He is strong yet gentle, his tears fall from a strong gaze. She knows she can comfort him because she knows only real men do cry.....
