Saturday For Stairs

Last weekend was Porch Fest. So, the people who were hosting the group Stu was playing with were painting the porch in ready for the festivities.

They were working together to fix the problem.

This is the original photo I used for Our Daily Challenge.

A fledgling Red Tailed Hawk, "D2" from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology "hawk cam," is joined by a chatty House Finch on the edge of a roof.

This is the first time I've been able to photograph this little gorge. It's on the way home from downtown. There are so many of these along the way but this is the biggest one.

Truck Thursday.

There is an Antique Car Club here. I have seen some pretty old cars/truck here lately!

Every year flowers are planted all over the city of Ithaca, NY.

I've seen a few of these around here, this one is closest to my house.

Fence Friday

This set up is typical in Ithaca, we live in a valley and many of the buildings are above one another.

It's a hot and hazy day today. This is what I saw from Trumansburg Road on my way to shop this morning. Cornell University looms over the city of Ithaca in the Finger Lakes region of Upstate New York State.

March Winter Storm

The wind was bowing the snow every which way today, I took this out the window from the loft above the garage. That's my neighbours house.

Truck Thursday

Taken out the Jeep window.

The white crown on the top of the truck isn't part of the truck. It's connected to the fence beside the truck. I love when you get a photo of something totally unexpected.

Happy Truck Thursday

With no by-pass near us, all the big trucks have to go right through town. I don't see too many of these ones though.

This is one of two streets I can take to head into Ithaca, NY. In this photo, I am heading uphill and back home. There are no seas around here, but we have an abundance of hills here in the Fingerlakes.

This shop is a jewelry store on one of the main corners in Ithaca, NY.

Before the sun set it lit up the Cayuga Lake Valley. Our Autumn colours were slow this year and many of the leaves have already fallen off the trees.

This lovely gorge is at the bottom of Taughannock Falls State Park.

This morning’s sunrise is so pretty I had to go out and take a photo with my iPhone. What a beautiful thing to wake up to in these dark times!

This is a closeup of one section of Ithaca Falls. I posted the whole falls a few weeks back and shared that image in the comments section below.

I hope everyone enjoys this image! :^)

Flickr was not working well yesterday, so I changed the date to move it up in the lineup so people wouldn't miss. Also, this is not a cropped version of the original but a whole separate shot. Sorry for the confusion.

Bench Monday

Saw this lovely bench at Baker's Acres a beautiful and quite large plant nursery in Ithaca, NY.

Window Wednesday

Last Saturday I brought my family to the Museum Of the Earth www.museumoftheearth.org/here in Ithaca, NY. We had a lovely time together. This is in the main window of the museum. It is the Right Whale. An endangered species of whale that lives in the North Atlantic Ocean. www.fisheries.noaa.gov/species/north-atlantic-right-whale

We were heading out to get Shizandra groomed and I saw this in front of a dry cleaning establishment. I got a chuckle out of it.

That little tree with the fisherman behind it at Ithaca Falls must have withstood quite a few batterings from when the water is high. It's the only tree around that spot and doesn't photograph well, but I wanted to pay tribute to it at this time.

Weather

Yesterday it was 73'F and sunny. What a difference a day makes!

Weather

The smoke is still affecting our atmosphere as you can see by the sun. My daughter told me as of yesterday there are 153 fires burning in Ontario. That's a lot and she said the air there is also very orange. She is hoping that she won't have to evacuate her home. I took this photo a short while ago. It's going to be a hot humid day, but we're to get a thunderstorm tomorrow.

Truck Thursday

The streets in Ithaca are narrow, so for these big rigs to make turns like this they need a very wide birth.

I can't tell you how many Downy Woodpeckers I have photographed and studied with fingers crossed hoping somehow one might just be my elusive Hairy. I call it a "finally bird".......and finally in Sapsucker Woods in Ithaca, NY, I saw a bird flash through the tall, thick woods and land on a distant tree. Right away I knew it wasn't a Downy....much longer beak and most telling...no black stripes or dots showing on the white tail feathers. You can also see its nest hole where it had one offspring. It was really agitated by my stopping and watching so I quickly moved on....accepting a few rapid fire shots for id proof. I think all in all I worked harder and longer for this life bird than any other I can remember. It was always in the back of my mind as they seem to be found all over North American woodlands......just not by me!

The Gulls at Stewart Park were everywhere.

Taughannock Falls is located in Ulysses, NY, part of the popular Finger Lakes Region of central New York. The falls is part of Taughannock State Park located between the Village of Trumansburg and the city of Ithaca. The falls cataract has an incredible drop of 215 feet (66 meters), and is one of the highest east of the Rocky Mountains.

Buttermilk Falls State Park takes its name from the foaming cascade formed by Buttermilk Creek as it flows down the steep valley side toward Cayuga Lake. The upper park has a small lake and hiking trails through woodlands and along the gorge. The lower park has a campground, natural pool and Larch Meadows, a wetland area through which a nature trail winds.

ODC-Just A Hint

The Ithaca area of Upstate, NY is riddled with gorges, waterfalls and streams. This one is one of my favourites to photograph. At the moment it's hard to see because the bush is so lush and full.

Morrill Hall was the University's first newly constructed building, built at a cost of $70,111 and opening on October 7, 1868 as South University Building, or less formally, as South Hall It is the southernmost of the three buildings which comprise the "Stone Row" which forms the west side of Cornell's Arts Quadrangle, all constructed of Ithaca bluestone quarried from the base of Libe Slope.

I'm not sure if he was delivering or picking up his cargo.

This is the Black Diamond Trail that winds its way along the west side of Cayuga Lake in Ithaca, NY. Today we went for a walk and were quite surprised to meet this fellow on his....uh...Llama???

It's getting to be that time when people are going to get their firewood ready for the colder weather.

Where I live there are no interstates or by-passes for the big trucks to travel on so they have to come into the city and travel through it. I see all types of big trucks every time I go into Ithaca.

The fog hangs over the Cayuga Valley when the nights are cold. The mist often rises from lakes and ponds in the area.

Tree-mendous Tuesday

Tried to take another moon photo last night but it was way too hazy so I couldn't. I opted for a sunrise. It's going to be a beautiful day today. The high is to be 74°F with brilliant sunshine and light breezes. Can't ask for much better than that.
