In 1950 the Bowater Paper Corporation of London started to issue an occassional journal to help provide "a stimulating commentary" on paper, its production, history and contemporary use. Needless to say it was produced to a high standard, if only to show off its own products, and several well known designers and artists of the period were commissioned for cover artwork and illustrations.

One of the major articles in this issue is on wallpaper - design and production - and the type of Bowater paper produced for this specialised product. As part of the issue a fold out inset shows four specially designed wallpapers, commissioned from five then well known and popular designers.

These are a design for a hall by Sylvia Priestley MSIA; Design for a dining room by Lucienne Day MSIA ; design for a nursery by Jacqueline Groag FSIA; and a design for a bedroom by Diana Armfield and Roy Passano MSSIA.

During the 1930s the London Midland & Scottish Railway (LMSR) and the London North Eastern Railway (LNER) issued a range of joint publications for areas they both served - such as London & Scotland. The Scotland brochure was an annual publication featuring a striking colour cover by different artists. This atmospheric scene is by artist "N W H".

Crazy what I find in my room. I should've stacked up on this issue when I had the chance.

A brand new issue of Gimp Magazine was released today!

Enjoy!

Had a tinker on Adobe with this one too. I think this is my favourite of the photos I've taken in the year or so I've been actively interested in photography as an artistic medium. It is by no means perfect, but I like that. It is one I come back to again and again, but can't quite define why I like it so, other than saying I like the lonliness, the palette and certainly Henri Rousseau.

p.s. Just remembered that I tried to hide the flash by making it strike on the UPVC rather than the windowpane!

My name is Barry Allen. And I am the fastest man alive. An accident put me in a coma and when I woke up I had super speed. I work under the name of “The Flash”

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

5 months. 5 months I have been the Flash and 5 months I have known Oliver Queen. Now he is dead. Murdered. His partner Roy Harper has now taken Oliver's place as the Green Arrow. So now here I am at is funeral with the other members of the Justice League. I am the newest member to the Justice League next to Cyborg. I was looking around for Oliver's sister Emiko but I couldn't find her. After the funeral I ran. I ran away from the madness right now I am focused on finding my mom’s killer. I have been working on the case for a while now but since oliver's death it reminded me of it. I get back to the lab. Clean up my desk grab the stuff I need and go. I run home and work on the case for a bit. I have heard a name drop before around my mom’s case “Thawne” that's the name I have been looking into. I don't have a lead.

“There must be a Thawne so where in this world!” I say to myself. I get an alert. Armed robbery. I get up and run to my newly designed suit. Put it on and I ran. When I get there, no one is around. I mean absolutely no one. The police weren't even here yet. No civilians, nothing. Weird I think to myself. I run around the premises. Nothing but one note. It said “Haha, to slow! For everything.”

“Hey, you!” I turn. The police just arrived.

“Sir we have been seeing you around recently. What do you have in police matter. And what's with the get up?”

“Flash! Call me The Flash!” I run. Making my mark there. Making sure they know who I am. And hopefully spread the word.

Throughout the past few days I have been all over T.V. New superhero in town! The super speed man known as The Flash. I smile to myself.

“Barry! Hey Barry!” I turn around to see a woman. Iris West to be exact.

“Hi Barry” she says. Iris West is a friend of mine. She is a reporter. She probably has a question about The Flash or something.

“Do you know anything about this Flash?”

I smile to myself…

Let me know what you thought about his issue. Who the villain is anything really! Sorry about this coming late. The Emiko issue one will come hopefully a little while after this. again sorry for the delay

Last shot from the EPL1. This time with the Nikon 85mm F1.4.

I am having issues with my MC Kaleinar-5N 100mm f/2.8 (Russian: "MC Калейнар-5Н 100/2.8") producing lots of spherical aberration which I think is leading to the overall softness of this lens. It is very soft throughout the aperture range.

Everything has a spherical aberration going on at f/2.8 making everything blurred and soft.

I hear that others have pretty good sharpness with their versions of this lens so I am disappointed with the one I got and I don't think it is an overall issue with the build. Mine is a later one with the rubber focusing ring. Perhaps I should have gone for an earlier version?

"Over the Points" was a well produced quarterly review 'of matters concerning the Southern Railway" that was issued to first class season ticket holders during the 1930s. For many years edited by the travel writer E P Leigh - Bennett, the magazine was printed for the SR at the exemplary Curwen Press in Plaistow, London, and the issues show much of the Press's consideration of design, layout, tyefaces and typography. This inlcudes many of the adverts - both 'in-house' and external and the magazine is illustrated with vignettes relevant to the text matter, many by Victor Reinganum.

This is seen here in the illustration to 'Rail Rhapsody' that covers the electrifcation scheme of the Portsmouth 'Direct' line that was authorised in 1935 and that came into service during 1937. The vignette is of a trackside substation where the electric current was stepped down from 33kv AC to traction current of 660v DC and fed to the current conductor rails.

Visitors to the museum were invited to weave a ribbon into the circular nets to 'vote' on the most significant issue to them; Affordable Housing, Clean Waterways, Less Tax, Equal Pay, or Action on Climate Change. Women were way over-represented on the Equal Pay circle, and men on the Less Tax - which also received significantly fewer votes than the others.

Four o'clock I've been walkin' all night

It's the time I always think of you

If you could only see through my eyes

Then you'd know just what I'm going through

Here am I I'm taking a chance

In running around with stars in my eyes

Here am I I'm looking for you

Wondering why do I feel so blue

I'm dreamin' dreamin' of me and you

I'm dreamin' dreamin' will see me through

Never letting chances pass me by

I'm gonna dream you right into my life

Yeah dream you right into my life

Woman you'd better believe I'm

Caption=FILE PICTURE Re-issued in connection with Jack Straw's comments on the wearing of the veil by Muslim women.Muslim woman wearing the traditional 'bhurka' headdress. THE Netherlands is likely to become the first country in Europe to ban the burka, under government proposals that would bring in some of the toughest curbs on Muslim clothing in the world. The countryÒs hardline Integration Minister, Rita Verdonk, known as the Iron Lady for her series of tough anti-immigration measures, told Parliament that she was going to investigate where and when the burka should be banned. The burka, traditional clothing in some Islamic societies, covers a womanÒs face and body, leaving only a strip of gauze for the eyes.
