Tempus fugit is a Latin expression meaning "time flies".
Frequently used as an inscription on clocks to remind us that life passes FAST, tick…tock....
All is fleeting and so ephemeral..
The expression was first used in the verse Georgica written by Roman poet Virgil: 'Sed fugit interea fugit irreparabile tempus' which means; "But it flees in the meantime: irretrievable time flees".
The meaning is sometimes used less colloquially as: "Meanwhile, the irreplaceable time escapes", expressing concern that one's limited time is being consumed by something which may have little intrinsic substance or importance at that moment.

I wanted to do something interesting with a dandelion head. I don’t know what but I thought perhaps I might photograph it against the sun, or get close in and blow the seeds from its head away with an air pistol, or , or, ……or give it’s head a pink rinse, or….or…. But we had thunderstorms and where there were tens of thousands of seeded heads just ready to blow away on a whiff of breeze, there were tens of thousands of pin head stalks instead, the fragile seedlets washed away in an instant by pelting raindrops. However I found one quivering under the umbrella of a tree and picked it delicately to carry carefully home. But gentle as I was it took the merest tremor of my hand to make part of the head just fall away as silently and irreplaceably as hope slipping away for a dying person, to leave just sadness..............

Interior of Notre Dame de Paris. Very sad knowing that this irreplaceable building won't be there anymore for everyone to enjoy. Had the chance to visit it nearly one year ago, never imagined that all this wonder was going to be destroyed by fire no long after.

Photography has taken over a large part of my life. And I am beginning to ask myself whether or not its has become an irreplaceable part. If it has, I need to monitor this and treat it like an addiction. The adjective 'irreplaceable' contains even more dimensions. As an individual, I am irreplaceable, but in terms of social functions I certainly am replaceable. My camera gear is replaceable too and I have just sold all my Sony components - not because those were not good enough, in fact my equipment was very good, but I wanted to stick to manual photography and the camera types I wish to use for that are Fuji and Leica. Some older and manual-only lenses are preferred therefore. This shot I did with the tiny 7Artisans 35/1.2 lens (mounted on a Fuji X-Pro1). Rather soft at F1.2, it is very capable, as here, at F2.8. All this is replaceable. I think I could even replace my facial expression.

The Great Mosque was constructed on the orders of Abd al-Rahman I in 785, when Córdoba was the capital of the Muslim-controlled region of al-Andalus. It was expanded multiple times afterwards under Abd ar-Rahman's successors up to the late 10th century. Among the most notable additions, Abd al-Rahman III added a minaret (finished in 958) and his son Al-Hakam II added a richly-decorated new mihrab and maqsurah section (finished in 971)
The Great Mosque of Cordoba represents a unique artistic achievement due to its size and the sheer boldness of the height of its ceilings. It is an irreplaceable testimony of the Caliphate of Cordoba and it is the most emblematic monument of Islamic religious architecture. It was the second biggest in surface area, after the Holy Mosque in Mecca, previously only reached by the Blue Mosque (Istanbul, 1588), and was a very unusual type of mosque that bears witness to the presence of Islam in the West. The Great Mosque of Cordoba was also very influential on Western Islamic art since the 8th century just as in the neo-Moorish style in the 19th century.
The mosque was converted to a cathedral in 1236 when Córdoba was captured by the Christian forces of Castile during the Reconquista. The structure itself underwent only minor modifications until a major building project in the 16th century inserted a new Renaissance cathedral nave and transept into the centre of the building. The work in the sixteenth century was cultural vandalism .
Even the Spanish King Charles V was appalled when he saw what they had done to the Great mosque . When he visited Cordoba he is reputed to have commented:
"You have built what you or anyone else might have built anywhere; but to do so you have destroyed something that was unique in the world”.

соцветий смотрят с лепестков белые "глазки". Но самый примечательный цвет

глубину морей и благородство происхождения, совершенство, мирную жизнь..На самом деле цветок Дельфиниум не так безобиден, как выглядит. Не стоит
им лакомиться каким-нибудь животным, тем более людям, потому что ядовит.
Яд Дельфиниума сравним… разве только с ядом таинственного "кураре". Даже
пчелы, прилетающие к такому растению- медоносу, готовят "пьяный" мед...Но, если хочется приворожить кого-то, то Дельфиниум незаменим. В руках
опытного ведьмака он пригоден для создания “зелья любви”. Для суеверных
людей Дельфиниум может служить оберегом. Засушите, обязательно синий,
Дельфиниум и спрячьте в льняной мешочек. Затем, перед ночным сном повести
на шею не для взгляда посторонних глаз. Тогда кошмарные видения или
бессонница тут же прекратятся..Еще древние славяне готовили из Дельфиниума лекарство, заживляющее раны.
Отсюда второе, очень странное его название "живокость". Но не вздумайте
сами готовить такое лекарство. Потому что рецепта давно нет в помине.
Возможно, он зарыт глубоко в земле на далеком, необитаемом острове и под
каким-нибудь о-о-огромных размеров деревом, возле которого грозная охрана
- огнедышащий дракон..Дельфиниумы благородны в происхождении…. С Олимпа Боги улыбались сей красе.
Они с терпением относятся к тени и солнцу, весенним заморозкам, несгибаемые
при порывах, холодящих нас, ветров. Махровые “фонтанчики”, подобные мечте,
блистают на свету, когда в росе. Изящные Дельфиниумы цветут в садах и кто
увидит их, воскликнет: ”А-а-ах!”...........................................................................................

The poison of Delphinium is comparable... except with the poison of the mysterious "curare". Even
bees arriving at such a honey plant prepare "drunk" honey...But if you want to enchant someone, then Delphinium is irreplaceable. In the hands
of an experienced witcher, it is suitable for creating a “love potion". For superstitious
people, Delphinium can serve as a talisman. Dry, necessarily blue,
Delphinium and hide it in a linen bag. Then, before going to sleep at night, lead
to the neck not for the sight of prying eyes. Then the nightmarish visions or
insomnia will immediately stop. Even the ancient Slavs prepared a medicine from Delphinium that heals wounds.
Hence its second, very strange name "larkspur". But do not try
to prepare such a medicine yourself. Because there is no recipe in sight for a long time.
Perhaps it is buried deep in the ground on a distant, uninhabited island and under
some oh-oh-huge tree, near which there is a formidable guard
- fire-breathing dragon. Delphiniums are noble in origin.... From Olympus, the Gods smiled at this beauty.
They are patient with the shade and the sun, spring frosts, unyielding
in the gusts of winds that chill us. Terry “fountains”, like a dream,
shine in the light when in dew. Elegant Delphiniums bloom in gardens and anyone
who sees them will exclaim: ”A-a-ah!”.

Five Fingers Strand takes its unusual name from the five long black sea-stacks that are located on the north end of this shore. These sand dunes are some of the highest in Europe. Formed around 5000 years ago. They now have their own protected & unique ecosystem. Rising sea levels & stormy weather are eroding them faster than ever into the sea. I hope nature manages to stabilise them again very soon, as they are so delicate & irreplaceable.
I was here for nearly 2 hrs with not a single soul in sight. Walking the length & breath of this strand & its dunes, exploring all the smooth colourful pebbles that are found in abundance along this shore. With a gentle wind blowing whilst patches of bright light broke through the dense clouds every so often, this created so many rich tones which reflected off the Atlantic’s surface. There’s nowhere else on earth I’d rather be 🌍

Ignoring politics and political faction and hoping that you all avoid political comments below - one thing was clear from the inauguration speech of the 46th President of the United States today. The word 'unity' was justly emphasised and is so profoundly important today.
We are one species inhabiting one tiny world in the vastness of space. Our resources are not limitless and our home is under threat. Humanity is consuming one and a half times of the resources available and by any measure of mathematics, that is not sustainable.
After witnessing the worlds most powerful nation withdraw from the Paris Climate Accord I was so bitterly disheartened but I am warmed to see that the new administration plans to re-join the accord in an effort to stave off some of the worst that man-made climactic change will bring to our home. Of course it is all too little and too late, and more needs to be done, but it is a footstep in the right direction after so many backwards steps.
I don't want to wear my politics on my sleeve, but as a human that cares about other humans I wanted to express my hope that we can get back on track to tackle this crisis.
We are one humanity inhabiting one tiny planet in the vastness of space. We owe it to ourselves and our future generations to take care of our irreplaceable world and we cannot do that with hate and division in our hearts.

... Freedom Light'
The Great Light is one of the largest optics of its kind ever built in the world, and is around 130 years old. Weighing 10 tonnes and measuring 7 metres tall, the optic is a unique maritime heritage object with significance to Belfast's economic, maritime and industrial past. It is totally irreplaceable and is an exceptionally rare maritime artefact. It produced one of the strongest lighthouse beams ever to shine - a truly GREAT LIGHT.

In Osthessen sind im Rahmen der angestrebten Energiewende viele Windräder aufgestellt worden. Fossile Brennstoffe sind allerdings nach wie vor unersetzbar. Eine Ladung davon hatte die 187 190 am Haken, als ich sie am Abend des 26. Juli 2024 bei Neukirchen südwärts fahrend fotografieren konnte.
Many wind turbines have been erected in East Hesse as part of the planned energy transition. However, fossil fuels are still irreplaceable. The 187 190 had a load of them on the hook when I photographed it travelling south near Neukirchen on the evening of 26 July 2024.
some people tear down outdated kitchens, and some people thrive in them and appreciate their irreplaceable charm. hannah does not have anything modern in her house and has no plans of changing that. these rooms may seem old fashioned to everyone else, but to her they are in perfect working order with full function and beauty. i still can't imagine why anyone would pass that up!
