at La Fiere in Normandy, where on June 6–9, 1944 members of 505 Parachute Infantry Regiment and 325th Glider Infantry Regiment, both elements of the 82nd Airborne Division, fought a fierce battle against repeated German attacks. The small stone bridge over the Merderet River was a key point for the Germans to take in order to break up the American landing at Utah Beach, while at the same time being key to the Americans so that they could expand their beachhead in Normandy. Over the course of the battle, the Germans attacked the lightly armed Americans with both infantry and armor but were never able to cross the bridge.

Noah Galloway and his fiancé Jamie Boyd at the Special Forces Association, Saturday, at an Operation Enduring Warrior post Spartan Race barbeque. Jamie said her favorite moment of the race was watching a double amputee crawl his way across the finish line. His buddies carried him most of the way, they wouldn't go on until they knew he had made it, she said But he wanted to finish on his own. That's teamwork.

Fort Bragg’s newest school, the Kimberly Hampton Primary School, was dedicated in a ceremony, Oct. 2. Kimberly Nicole Hampton’s OH-58D Kiowa Warrior helicopter was shot down in Fallujah, Iraq, Jan. 2, 2004, making her the first female military pilot in U.S. history to be shot down and killed as a result of hostile fire. Dale and Ann Hampton, Kimberly’s parents, attended the ceremony and unveiled the portrait done in their daughter’s honor.

Over the weekend elements from 1st Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 2nd Battalion, 505th PIR, and 5th Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment fired more than 30 Tube-launched, optically-tracked, wire guided missiles from Observation Point 9.
The Fort Bragg Swingers Club faced off against the Frisbros during the semifinal game of the Ultimate Frisbee Tournament. Swingers defeated the Frisbros 14-3 to move on the play Soto in the championship game. Soto deafeated the Swingers 7-2, winning the tournament.
