Club on Sept. 19 was a hit, with hundreds dancing to pop songs, entering drawings, and making lasting
memories at the vintage photo booth.

Longtime Vicenza Military Community member and World War II veteran, U.S. Army Col. Myron Murley (retired) is presented with the French National Order of the Legion of Honor Medal in a ceremony July 25 at his retirement home in northwest Italy. Murley participated in the liberation of France during the Second World War and was a founding member of VFW Post 8862 in Vicenza in the 1990s.

Major Fields said that the training would allow the Nursing Cadets to better understand the environment and possible injuries that can occur during a live jump. Gymnastics camp participants do back bend stretches in preparation for practice. During camp, participants honed their gymnastics skills designed to give them the basic skills. Some of the participants were there learning the basics while others were sharpening their gymnastics skills to use during throughout the school year for other sports.

The Fort Bragg Swingers Club faced off against the Frisbros during the semifinal game of the Ultimate Frisbee Tournament. Swingers defeated the Frisbros 14-3 to move on the play Soto in the championship game. Soto deafeated the Swingers 7-2, winning the tournament.
Military Police, Harnett Co. Police, Cumberland Co. Police, Spring Lake Police and State Troopers all participated in Operation Enfore Standards on Feb. 19. The operation took place on Hwy. 87 at the Cumberland Co. and Harnett Co. Line, and gave troopers and Soldiers the opportunity to enforce traffic laws and standards.

The week-long competition recognizes Soldiers who attain proficiency as field medics and test on skills such as passing an Army physical fitness test, weapon qualification, land navigation and being able to move under direct and react to indirect fire.
Retired Master Sgt. Omar R. Soto was awarded the Purple Heart Medal in a ceremony, June 18, at 18th Fires Brigade Headquarters by Maj. Gen. John W. Nicholson, Jr., 82nd Airborne Division commanding general. Soto received the Purple Heart for action that took place July 29, 2011, while serving in Battery C, 3rd Battalion, 321st Field Artillery Regiment, 18th Fires Brigade, 82nd Abn. Div., as chief of the firing battery. Soto’s unit was deployed to the Pech Valley in Afghanistan at Combat Outpost Honaker-Miracle when it came under hostile small arms and mortar fire late one evening. The COP received four direct hits by a 60mm mortar rounds, one being in close proximity to Soto who suffered wounds as a result of the hostile actions.
