This is a Boddington's pub ale. Quite nice. At Claddagh Irish Pub in Eastwood Towne Center. My new favorite place to eat lunch on the weekend. I've been looking for a quiet place to eat lunch, and I was surprised at how nice Claddagh was. It must be crappy when it's crowded, but it had a real pub feel.

Claddagh is a cookie cutter fake Irish pub, with the wood trim and decor to match. It is a chain restaurant, and has the requisite chain restaurant feel. However, what Claddagh has that is quite nice is an excellent selection of beers, with several enjoyable brews from Ireland and GB. Also, it has an excellent selection of Scotch whiskey, which is rare. They had Macallan 18, hard enough to find as it is. Their scotch selection seems entirely misplaced (Scotch = Scotland), but I find scotch a little more enjoyable than Irish Whiskey, which is less distinctive.
All in all, if you want a pint and a nice whiskey, then Claddagh will do. If you're closer to Ann Arbor, just go to Ashley's.

I believe that it translates to 'Guinness is here...without a doubt'. A sign outside a pub in Baltinglass, County Wicklow.

Clonakilty, a multi-award winning, cosmopolitan, friendly seaside town at the heart of West Cork, in the South of Ireland.
Guinness Island Irish Pub in the CentrO complex in Oberhausen. I was Asst. Manager of this place between 1997 and 1999.
This is one of my first ever photographic efforts. I still like it.

Today marked the longest time I've spent out of Ireland.
The last time I spent 6 months on the road I was 18 years old and had just finished school. It's bizarre to realise that it took another 9 years, half the life of that young man, for me to venture this long again.
But here I am, and it won't be ending any time soon.
Here's to reaching a point where your 18-year-old self always thought you would be. Sláinte.

This substantial public house was built in the 1920s at the corner of Mauldeth Road West and Nell Lane. For a number of years the pub had had an Irish theme (there being a large Irish population in the area). According to the signs the building also housed 'Mammy's Irish Kitchen' (a cafe) and the Celtic Tiger nightclub (offering live Irish music). The Southern closed in April 2011 and as of December 2011 was still boarded up and up for sale.
