Fun facts: the Irish Pub in New Hope had a spin-the-wheel-to-get-your-deal thing on Thursday nights. Pints were $1.75. Oh, and it also had a Northern Ireland shirt in the window with "Ireland" printed on it. I'm sure Irish people would spot the difference pretty quickly.

One of Dublins best known bars, O' Donoghues is strongly associated with the Dubliners, which has helped it to become something of a mecca for traditional musicians.
A new bar opened in Pefkos while we were there: the Pefki Irish Pub (a stunningly original name!). We waited until the second night before trying it out after a meal. Nice cold ice cold Guinness and a whiskey and water were just the ticket!
T he Vat House Bar of Temple Bar is a traditional Irish Pub, which gets it's name from the vat house in the Guinness Brewery, St. James Gate, Dublin.

Likely the only double Grammy winner working in human resources today, Andy Bassford is a highly sought after session guitar player. Right now, he's playing with Natalie Merchant. A few years ago, it was Rihanna and before that, it was Toots and the Maytals. Also, he is one of the smartest, best informed people I've ever met. What can I say, he is a man of many talents and he apparently doesn't sleep.

During our stop at the Scholars Lounge Irish pub (Via del Plebiscito 101), we decided to order a couple of pints and a late lunch. The placemats paid homage to several great Irish-born scholars, including James Joyce, Oscar Wilde, George Bernard Shaw, Samuel Beckett, and William Butler Yeats. Although we should have perhaps sought out a proper Italian meal, the convenience factor brought us here, as the pub was just a couple of blocks from Piazza Venezia and Il Vittoriano. Food, drink, air conditioning, free WiFi, and English-speaking staff -- a perfect respite from the hot and dusty streets of Rome!
