Dageraad was once a brewery stubbornly proud of never brewing IPA, until they got hooked on the idea of dry-hopping Belgian-style Blonde ale with the freaky, fruity, resiny Amarillo hops of the American northwest.
The resulting beer isn’t really IPA and isn’t really Belgian-style, but it’s really good.

One of the new bars we discovered this year is Draught 55, a wonderful beer bar at Midtown with a very solid beer menu. We enjoyed a few ones, and these two IPAs were just awesome (The Founders Double Trouble was perfect).

When hops provide such a plethora of beautiful flavours and aromas, why focus only on bitterness? Wildeye IPA leads with a choir of citrus and tropical fruit, and possesses just enough bitterness to properly balance the refreshing malt character.
This brew is a psycho-tropic trip with boat loads of mosaic hops, famous for their tropical fruit punch to the palate. You’ll find flavours of guava and sweet citrus with subtle IPA bitterness. Once upon a time the mighty Kaleidoscope was a formidable seasonal bomber release from Phillips, as well as a staff favourite. Medium bodied, grain-forward with a hint of crystal malt. Double dry-hopped with 100% Mosaic hop. This brew is dynamic, well-rounded, and symmetrically balanced no matter how you spin it.
As breweries pop up in Vancouver faster than you can keep up with another brewery opened up. Off The Rail Brewing has recently launched in East Vancouver and one of their initial beers is the “Hopinionated IPA”. The beer pours a cloudy amber colour with an off white head. The aroma consists of caramel malts, mild fruitiness and floral hops

In this strange account of the eternal battle between good and evil, the valiant knight is our hero, destined to deliver us from the dragon’s firey breath that is our thirst. The bold and flavourful Guardian IPA – hazy and thirst-quenching, with a super-juicy and citrusy dry-hopped character – will make the slaying of any dragon most enjoyable.
They say that you should photograph things that you care about, so I'm happy to try and document some of the good beer that's available these days. This is Stone IPA which is my current go-to beer.
Lighting stuff: This is another attempt at lighting glass, which I find to be very difficult, due to the reflections. What little I've learned has come from the book "Light Science and Magic - An introduction to Photographic Lighting" which has an entire chapter devoted to this difficult subject. I've just acquired a roll of translum, and I place a sheet of it behind the bottle with a small black card (a little bit bigger than the bottle) between it and the bottle. I then fired a bare Yongnuo through the translum. This created the rim lighting. The lighting on the front of the bottle came from a two Yongnuo strobes in 24 inch softboxes placed on either side of the bottle in an attempt to create even balanced lighting. I still ended up with a fair amount of specular highlights, and spent some time in post cleaning it up. The strobes, in manual mode, were triggered by a Yongnuo RF-603N. On the plus side, even if the picture isn't great, I did get to drink the beer.
Other pictures that I've taken of beer can be seen in my cleverly titled Beer album.
Fresh Hop IPA might be my favorite Sierra Nevada product. 6.8% ALC. Another from my Advent Box, number 18.
Went down well!
Only 330mls so not so bad..
"This light, golden classic has been subverted with new world hops to create an explosion of flavour. Bursts of caramel and tropical fruit with an all-out riot of grapefruit, pineapple and lychee, precede a spiky bitter finish"
I got this for my boyfriend, he likes Rush and "Ghost Rider" is a name of a Rush song. The can is no relation to that, I just got it for the name.
Ghost Rider lyrics
Pack up all those phantoms
Shoulder that invisible load
Keep on riding North and West
Haunting that wilderness road
Like a ghost rider
Carry all those phantoms
Through bitter wind and stormy skies
From the desert to the mountain
From the lowest low to the highest high
Like a ghost rider
Keep on riding North and West
Then circle South and East
Show me beauty but there is no peace
For the ghost rider
Shadows on the road behind
Shadows on the road ahead
Nothing can stop you now
There's a shadow on the road behind
There's a shadow on the road ahead
Nothing can stop you now
Sunrise in the mirror
Lightens that invisible load
Riding on a nameless quest
Haunting that wilderness road
Like a ghost rider
Just an escape artist
Racing against the night
A wandering hermit
Racing toward the light
From the white sands
To the canyon lands
To the redwood stands
To the barren lands
Sunrise on the road behind
Sunset on the road ahead
There's nothing to stop you now
Nothing can stop you now
September 21st – To celebrate their 18th anniversary, Phillips had a field day brewing a beer with 18 different grains to toast each year. All of these grains are outstanding in their field and threshed to impress even the most cereal polygamist. They are then balanced with 6 Northwest hop varietals, leading to a full, hop-forward silo-doscope of flavour. Taste the Grainbow!
The Ghost Ship IPA has an ABV of 6.0% which is on the lower end of most IPA's. That being said it does pack more of a punch than your average beer. I found this beer to be lighter than your standard IPA which makes them go down easier and doesn't fill you up as much as most IPA’s. This paired with the silky consistency mixed with its juicy flavors puts it pretty high on the scale, if you're looking for a beer that can give you a quick and easy day-drunk by the lake.
