The Piazza del Plebiscito is one of the most elegant spots in Naples and plays host to a large number of the city's cultural events. Named after the 1860 plebiscite that brought Naples into the unified Kingdom of Italy, it was built in the first half of the 19th century out of volcanic rock from Vesuvius.
Four massive ionic columns grace the front of the former Carrollton Courthouse. Built in 1855 by architect, Henry Howard in the Greek Revival style. Located just beyond St. Charles Ave., in the Riverbed neighborhood of New Orleans, La. 70118.
"From 1957 to 2013, it housed a series of public schools, including Benjamin Franklin High School, the first New Orleans public high school to integrate in 1963. Musicians Wynton and Delfeayo Marsalis and actor Wendell Pierce are among Ben Franklin’s famous graduates."

Just part of the terrace of Waterloo Place with its Ionic columned porches, quite like those in Clarendon Square. Waterloo Place, named in honour of the famous battle of 1815, Waterloo Place, was designed by P.F. Robinson and built 1828-32.

The Temple of Hephaestus is the best preserved ancient temple in Greece. It was dedicated to Hephaestus, the ancient god of fire and Athena, goddess of pottery and crafts. According to the archeologists, the temple was built around 450 B.C. at the western edge of the city, on top of Agoreos Koronos hill, and it is a classical example of Dorian architecture. The temple was designed by Iktinus, one of the talented architects who also worked on Parthenon, However, many other craftsmen worked at this fantastic temple. ~ Source: Greeka
This is a color photograph of the Erechtheum, the ionic temple built in 421–405 BC on the Acropolis of Athens, Greece. Erechtheum is famous for its six Caryatids (supporting the porch) and for its exquisite architectural details. The architect was Mnēsiclēs. The name is probably derived from the Greek hero Erichthonius or the legendary king Erechtheus.
In the early 19th century, Thomas Bruce, 7th earl of Elgin looted or plundered one Caryatid and several sections from the Acropolis monuments and transported them to the UK.
One of 4 Ionic columns surviving from the original Sanctuary of Apollo (sacked by the Goths in 395 AD) was used in rebuilding the Daphni Monastery church in the 11th century. (The other three are in the collection of the British Museum (not currently on display), taken there by Thomas Bruce, Earl of Elgin (of Parthenon marbles fame): www.britishmuseum.org/collection/search?place=Daphne has some nice black and white images of them and other items relating to the site

[The Joseph Wilkerson House set contains 14 images] This is a creative commons image, which you may freely use by linking to this page. Please respect the photographer and his work.
[This house has been identified by Chris DiMattei (volorgas) as a Barber house.) Boydton in Mecklenburg County, Virginia has an unusually large number of old houses for a town of about 500. Part of Boydton Historic District, this wood Queen Anne was built by Joseph Wilkerson, a contractor, in 1912. The front façade has both a gable and a dormer projecting from the central hip roof, each with a round-headed casement window. A two-story bay is marked by the gable projection, containing large windows on both levels; these windows are six panes wide of two different sizes, 12 smaller on top and 6 longer on the bottom. Brick steps lead to the porch entrance, which is pedimented; this entrance is flanked on both sides by a turned post balustrade. The porch is wraparound—the main porch and a small portion extending back from the gazebo-like bay, domed with a finial. The bay divisions of the porch are marked by wooden, fluted Ionic column supports for the roof. The single door entrance has sidelights and a segmented transom. On top of the house is a widow’s walk. The cast iron fence with gate was the one-time fence for the Courthouse Square in Boydton to keep cows off the lawn. The Boydton Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places May 16, 2002 with reference #02000511. The house has been identified as one by Knoxville architect George F. Barber.
The house, on a 1.63 acre lot, apparently has been sold. It has 3,844 square feet; online realtor information states 4 or 6 bedrooms, and 2 1/2 or 3 1/2 baths. Online information also lists the date of the house as 1905. It also lists the contractor as Wilkinson rather than Wilkerson. The perennial question—how credible is information online? The foundation of my information is from the Virginia Department of Historic Resources: www.dhr.virginia.gov/registers/Counties/Mecklenburg/173-5...
