[ENG] The church of Bossost , dedicated to the invocation of the Mother of God of Purification, is one of the best preserved in the entire Val d'Aran region, and a clear example of the prototype of a Romanesque church of the valley (very horizontal buildings, with three naves and three semicircular apses and a very marked gable in the presbytery). It was built in the first half of the 13th century, and includes many foreign decorative elements: strips of blind semicircular arches in the bell tower and apses, or the small vertical lesenes (pilaster strip) on the outside of the apse, both typical of Lombard Romanesque, checkered jaques on the front and eaves… Outside the temple, the highlights are the bell tower, the head and its two façades. (Rueda de campanas: rueda rodeada de campanillas que se toca haciéndola girar, en ciertas iglesias y en ciertas festividades, en el momento de la elevación)
La iglesia de Bossost, dedicada a la advocación de la Mair de Diu dera Purificacion, es una de las mejor conservadas de toda la comarca del Val d'Aran, y un claro ejemplo del prototipo de iglesia románica aranesa (edificios muy horizontales, con tres naves y tres ábsides semicirculares y un hastial muy marcado en el presbiterio). Fue construida en la primera mitad del siglo XIII, e incluye muchos elementos decorativos foráneos: franjas de arquillos ciegos de medio punto en campanario y ábsides, o las pequeñas lesenas verticales en el exterior del ábside, ambos propios del románico lombardo, ajedrezado jaqués en portada y aleros… En el exterior del templo, lo más destacado son el campanario, la cabecera y sus dos portadas.

The Basilica of St. Michael the Archangel (placed under the invocation of St. Michael the Archangel ) is a church catholic located in the heart of the historical center of Menton . Since the road from the seafront , with majestic staircases allow to gradually reach the site where, on a spot in the stalls CALADE triumph whole perspective of the baroque architecture .
At the beginning of the xvii th century, desired by Prince Honoré II of Monaco , its construction was entrusted to the architect Lorenzo Lavagna. TheMay 27 1619The first stone was laid in the presence of the prince and lord Nicolà Spinola, bishop of Ventimiglia which depended Menton and Roquebrune while Monaco depended on the Bishop of Nice. Excavation works actually began in 1639 and the church was opened for worship in 1653 . Finally, theMay 8 1675The bishop of Ventimiglia Monsignor Mauro Promontorio dedicated the new church in the presence of Prince Louis I st . In 1701 , the architect Emmanuel Cantone erects a tower of fifty-three meters high, real watchtower overlooking the city. Its current facade was completed in 1819 in the spirit of the baroque of the xvii th century.
Inside, the vast nave with four bays form a large Latin cross . The choir , preceded by a triumphal arch is decorated with stucco marble with pilasters dishes. A painted wooden statue of 1820 representing Saint Michael slaying the dragon overcomes the altar in polychrome marble. The side chapels are decorated with altarpieces baroque. One is dedicated to Saint Devote . Some had been granted to wealthy families of Menton.
Beautiful organ in the choir (XVII c.) Unknown factor. It has been often attributed to Gio Oltrachino (Jean Utrect), organ builder native of this town, located in Genoa and which is known by many constructions organ archives in Liguria - only one still existing intact in Alassio - and Monaco: the parish church of Saint-Nicolas Monaco dated 1639 (current buffet that of St. Charles church restructured by architect Charles Lenormand and Merklin), that of the palatine chapel (1639) disappeared and another organo portatile the same time also disappeared. Gio Oltracchino died in Genoa in 1647 and the organ of Saint-Michel can not be attributed to him.
In 1999 , the Saint-Michel church is raised to the dignity of minor basilica by Pope John Paul II , and consecrated basilica in January 2000 . Since 1949 , each year in August, the square hosts the famous Festival of Classical Music . She is one of the most visited attractions in the Alpes-Maritimes.
The Basilica (and its square ; other items were enrolled at other dates) is the subject of a classification as historical monuments since 3 March 1947

"Pour éviter tout contact avec les autres, Neerah empoisonne sa propre peau en l'imprégnant de sang, et de venin de Vouivre mélangé à du Ricin. Elle a appris au fil du temps à devenir insensibles aux effets de ces poisons violents, mais les débuts lui ont laissé des séquelles psychologiques violentes, et l'ont rendue sadomasochiste.
Illyh'Era la surveillait toujours dans l'ombre, veillant à ne pas trop s'en approcher. Mais dût aux multiples crises de sa maîtresses, elle fut en contact avec le liquide plusieurs fois. Cependant, la loyauté d'Illyh'era envers Neerah est sans bornes et malgré cette triste défiguration elle répond quoi qu'il arrive aux appels de sa maîtresse, quitte à se décomposer lentement mais surement ... en attendant le remède."

[ESP] Los tramos rectos del presbiterio y de los muros sur y norte comparten un motivo ornamental: los canecillos con rostros humanos en que descansa la cornisa del alero. Son múltiples, y cada rostro trata de transmitir una emoción diferente (burlones, otros expresan quietud, o quizás temor).

[ESP] La portada norte seguramente es la más antigua. Está compuesta por un arco de medio punto rodeado por dos arquivoltas peraltadas y sin decoración, y otras tantas columnas con función decorativa rematadas con capiteles decorados con formas toscas, tres con entrelazados de distinto volumen y trazado, y otro con dos animales apenas identificables en plena pelea. Sin duda, lo más destacado de esta portada es el tímpano -que es la joya de la corona del templo- en el que se representa un Pantocrátor rodeado por un tetramorfos y enmarcado por una cenefa con el característico ajedrezado de Jaca, y en el centro de la parte inferior un crismón que muestra también una influencia aragonesa. A ambos lados de la cabeza de Cristo hay una representación del sol y la luna, que hay que interpretarla como una sincretización románica asignando el valor de Cronocrátor (señor del tiempo y de los ciclos) a Cristo.

Kaikottikali is an extremely popular and elegant folk dance performed by the maidens of Kerala. It is a group dance and is mainly performed on the occasion of Onam and Thiruvathira. Women, both young and old submerge themselves in the spirit of the occasion and dance with perfect ease.
Dress code of Kaikottikali is hugely impressive as women folk neatly attire themselves in a gold bordered traditional two piece cloth called mundu and neriyathu; A mundu is a one piece cloth draped on the lower part of the body while neriyathu is worn over a blouse. They also beautifully tie their hair in a form of bun. A fragrant jasmine garland on the bun further enhances the charm of the dancer.

Squamish Nation Pow Wow 2012 at the Capilano Indian Reserve in North Vancouver was the place to be for native bands from across BC and elsewhere to congregate. They gathered to greet each other and celebrate their culture together at this annual event in the traditional territory of the Coast Salish land.
Aboriginal men and women in full regalia danced in the Grand Entry and participated in the Invocation. They also competed as individuals in different categories like in a sports event. The modern day Pow Wow is very much a family affair – in recognition of the work and contribution by the native women in the community and the role that the younger ones could play is also very much part of the agenda. The Pow Wow therefore becomes an ideal venue for the youngsters to reconnect with their culture and way of life, thus preserving the aboriginal tradition that goes back thousands of years.

I don't have a fireworks image or anything remotely New Year. Instead, I am using a quick shot (from ages ago) of a prayer wheel that I have had for a few decades, bought in Dubai, Oct/Nov 1972, when we were on local leave from Oman. This city is in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the capital of the Emirate of Dubai.
In my imagination (and maybe in yours, too), this wheel can turn and turn forever, repeating prayers (and hope) that some day the world will change and each one of us would be able to live in peace, no matter what part of the world one lives. Hopefully, the year 2025 will begin to change in that direction - it definitely needs to.

"In Buddhism, a prayer wheel is of a hollow metal cylinder, often beautifully embossed, mounted on a rod handle and containing a tightly wound scroll printed with a mantra. Prayer wheels come in many sizes: they may be small, attached to a stick, and spun around by hand, medium-sized and set up at monasteries or temples, or very large and continuously spun by a wind or water mill.
Prayer wheels are used primarily by the Buddhists of Tibet and Nepal, where hand-held prayer wheels are carried by pilgrims and other devotees and turned during devotional activities.
According to Tibetan Buddhist belief, spinning a prayer wheel is just as effective as reciting the sacred texts aloud. This belief derives from the Buddhist belief in the power of sound and the formulas to which deities are subject. For many Buddhists, the prayer wheel also represents the Wheel of the Law (or Dharma) set in motion by the Buddha.
The prayer wheel is also useful for illiterate members of the lay Buddhist community, since they can "read" the prayers by turning the wheel.
The external cylinder of a prayer wheel is made out of repoussé metal, usually gilded bronze. The wheel is supported on a handle or axis made of wood or a precious metal. On the outside of the cylinder are inscriptions in Sanskrit (or sometimes Tibetan) script (often Om mani padme hum) and auspicious Buddhist symbols. This outer part is removable to allow for the insertion of the sacred text into the cylinder. The uppermost point of the prayer wheel forms the shape of a lotus bud.
The cylinder contains a sacred text written or printed on paper or animal skin. These texts might be sutra or invocations to particular deities (dharani or mantras). In Tibetan prayer wheels, the mantra Om Mani Padme Hum is printed in an ancient Indian script or in Tibetan script, usually on the outside as well as on the scroll inside. "Om mani padme hum" is the most important mantra of Buddhism. It is the six syllable mantra of the Bodhisattva of compassion Avalokiteshvara.
